Lee Enfield Anyone?

A good friend gave me a no. 5 "jungle carbine" that had been sporterized. It's by far the smoothest bolt gun I've ever handled. It was made in 1945 and I don't know if she saw combat or not. She shoots well, especially with .312 bullets. I'm still working up loads for her. She came with a zero bolt head and I replaced it with a no. 1. I replaced the front sight with a lower one as she was shooting too low. Now I just need to find a good load that she likes. Should make one heck of a truck gun. I've got a dig. camera, and would like to post pictures, but no one has the time to show me how. All parts are matching and if I could find a good scope mount I might be tempted as my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. I still manage about 3" groups or so at 100 yds.

I went to 2 shows this weekend,both were loaded with Enfields for sale.Makes me wonder,is there a current run on some coming in recently?

In order to show pictures, you have to click on the little picture icon with the mountain in it in the toolbar of your posting window. After you click it, a little window will pop up asking you for a URL. This is simply the web address of the picture you would like to post. Cut and paste that address into the little window, then click OK. It will post your picture. This assumes of course, that you have the pictures hosted online. You can't simply post a picture straight from your hard drive.

If you watch ebay....

you might be able to pick up the parts needed to restore your rifle. I doubt if you will do better than 3 inches with a No5. Nothing wrong with groups that size. I have a carbine that won't do better than 4 inches and it has taken 6 deer......chris3

who likes Lee Enfields

I have four lee's in different configuration. A No 1 as in WW1 and a No4 as in WW2 and they are both in .303. I have a No4 which was rebuilt with heavy barrel and that's in .308 (NATO 7.62). Australian International Arms have produced a modern No 5 in 7.62x39 and that is a sweet little tool as it is light and handy for my ageing arthritic arms and hands, it has a scope and the reputation that "if I can see it I can hit it. The No 5 jungle carbine had a reputation for having a wandering zero in .303 but they were never really meant to be shooting over great distances as the name suggests. The Lee .303 Mk 7 round was a fierce round for a No 5 and gave it plenty of savage recoil but its just a case of taking command of the rifle and holding on tight when you fire it. I call it fun. Ten well aimed shots per minute or sixteen shots per minute rapid fire. Dont touch the barrel.

Great rifle!

Nice rifle a good one to try to restore or keep original parts turn up on e bay and also Gun Parts Corporation/ Numrich Arms.
One of these were among my first center fire rifles growing up, light weight fast handling hard hitting and a unique bit of history.
I would work the bolt cupping the bolt knob between my curled trigger finger and thumb and pull the trigger with the middle or birdie finger with a bit of practice its very fast to manipulate the rifles bolt this way.
Wish I would have kept my first one and restored it as they are getting hard to come by and are only are going up in price.
For a good no drill scope mount that is easily removed check www.Brownells.com item number 100-000-319 its made by DAI managment and is as easy to install it does not alter the rifle.
Just remember to save any screws or other parts I usually wrap mine in tape label them and put them in the buttstock or in a tupperware container.

I think a bunch did just come in. I saw them for sale in one of the flyers (SOG, Century, etc, I forget).

I wish some cheap surplus would come in from somewhere. Yea, I know. That's a pipe dream.
