I'm just curious, and thinking(typing) out loud. . .

From what I can tell, the Lee Turret press and the Lee Pro1000 share the same base. I know the shell plate carrier is different, but, are the columns, and the die holders the same? If they are, is there any reason that I couldn't convert a pro1000 from a three station press to a 4 station?

The shell plate for the PRO 1000 is designed for three positions , so probably won't work with the fourth position , otherwise LEE would be advertizing it as another accessory for the PRO 1000. I think you could convert a PRO 1000 to a LEE TURRET PRESS by buying extra parts but I can't see a reason to, unless you have an excess of PRO 1000'S. We all have these " what if " " why not" questions.

Yup, I didn't think about the actual shell plate. the lack of a fourth position would definitely be a problem. I was looking more at the indexing mechanism, and the turret head.

Hmm. Maybe it's time for a loadmaster. Saw one used for sale locally for fairly cheap$ :)

I'd love to be able lto add a station to my Pro 1000s, so that I could use the Lee Factory Crimp Die....but, as it has been point out, that can't be done. The shell plate and index mechanism indexes in increments of 120 degrees, and so no amount of four-hole turrets would make any difference. Doesn't matter much. I just use the FCD die as a separate operation in my Rock Chucker, and life goes on. For more stations, rather than go to a Loadmaster I upped the ante and sprung for a Dillon XL650....would you believe FIVE stations?

In any event, for my smaller runs of reloading I'll continue to use my Pro1000s. They are a great little reloading press once one understands their quirks (keep them CLEAN, keep them LUBRICATED, keep you reloading speed MODERATE), with high quality dies and a very accurate powder measure. At the price, well-nigh unbeatable.

buy a couple what? Another pro1000? Sure. A lee turret press or loadmaster? Maybe. Either way, send me a PM with press information, and a price.

If you want a Lee with a 5-hole turret get the Loadmaster. I bought one used and sold both of my Pro 1000 presses. It is a lot more press then the 1000's.
