Hard to answer the "accuracy" question without shooting more exemplars from the XD line ...
I've only handled and fired a couple of standard XD's, one each in 9mm and .40 S&W ... and only the .40 S&W for any length of time over the course of a few range sessions.
Both seemed to be acceptably accurate, although the cocked SA trigger doesn't feel like a cocked SA trigger. Similar to a Glock, and not as good as a S&W TDA or Walther AS when either is cocked in SA mode, or even most SIGARMS pistols cocked in SA mode, for that matter.
Decent ergonomics. A bit muzzle heavy, although not badly balanced. Not as much muzzle rise as with the Glock .40's, or the 99 series, for that matter ... and that might initially affect some POA/POI elevation issues for some folks, especially if they were accustomed to shooting a polymer-framed pistol with less 'muzzle heft'. Dunno. You know how variable different shooter's performance and reactions can be when some factors are introduced ...
I seemed to find it a bit easier to do well when it came to consistent potential accuracy than some of the other folks that tried the .40 S&W model. I have no idea what that means ... if anything.
There are some potential good features and benefits on the XD model line, but there are some things that I'd like to watch how they do, too, as the line is probably adopted/approved by more L/E users and owners in the coming years.
I'd be more tempted to try one if they were priced under $400 (and closer to $300), and I could attend one of their armorer's classes to get some further insight into the design and platform now that Springfield is importing it.
