.308 Norma

Was at a gun show some time back when I came across a dealer who had two new Colts in .38 Super on his table. One was a highly polished Colt Custom Government bright stainless steel model. The other was a Colt Commander with a stainless steel slide and a Cerakoted aluminum alloy frame. Both of them were very close in price as well.

Didn't have enough money on me to buy the Colt Custom so I figured I would come to the next show and pick it up. About a month later the next show comes around and wouldn't you know it the Colt Custom was gone but the Commander was there. Well I really wanted a .38 Super and the Commander felt great in my hand so I went with it and I have been very happy with my decision. I love the lighter weight and the shorter slide for CCW.

Besides the Custom would have become a permanent safe denizen as it was too "pretty" to ever take out and shoot!

The spurs and the silver buckle and tip on this belt were my Dad's. My Mom gave the belt to him back in the 40's. He plumb wore it out, so I had a friend put them on this gun belt to keep them around. I used the spurs for over 20 years after he moved to town.

Or maybe this one.
Don't have many BBQs around here. More likely burgers and beer.
Before the meal and drinks, there's a pretty good chance of some bettin' and shootin' out in the pasture behind the barn. I've seen some pretty fair shootin' with them thar fancy guns..

These work on my pants belt and are a little more inconspicuous. They're good for Marryin's and Buryin's and such.

My understanding is that a BBQ gun is not expected to be used, it's worn to semi-formal or formal occasions as what I guess would be called a fashion accessory. I remember a thread here a few years ago where the OP was talking about what gun to wear to his wedding.
In that case I’ll include my gaudy Colt Storekeeper here...

Awesome collection and tribute belt!

My parents give me a cowboy outfit when I was a kid, never figured out what I was supposed to do with spurs in the Bronx.

I frankly don't understand the linkage between barbecues and the ostentatious display of guns. Is this something regional, centered on Texas? I grew up in Texas, between 1955 and 1970, and I don't believe I ever encountered this tradition. And, BTW, back then, open carry wasn't even legal. (I guess a barbecue on private property could be considered not carrying "in public.")

My experience of it was all very rural, and all on private property.
Not per se "redneck country" but on places with more than 150 acres; and in my case, typically more than one Section (a square mile, 640 acres)

Not exactly a typical Austin backyard--more like out towards Leander and the like--the big empty areas around Taylor or Elgin. One of Mike Dell's VP had a soiree of the proper sort at his place over in Comal County. Was less of an Open Carry than a "nobody bothered to conceal" sort of situation.

In Virginia we have the annual "shad planking" in lieu of the Texas-style political "barbecue." Same function. Gives politicians a chance to "meet and greet." If people are carrying guns at shad plankings, they're well concealed.

I take that back. One year my Civil War reenactment unit was invited to act as a guard of honor at a shad planking.

You NOVA/ eastern shore folks really need to stay in your lane.

Your take on Virginia isn't the way 90+% of the state lives.

The particular shad planking I was referring to was at Flower Dew Hundred, on the James River east of Petersburg. Neither NoVa nor Eastern Shore. (The main politico there was Chuck Robb, then the Governor. This was in the 1980's.)

I'm not going to derail this wonderful thread.

If you would like to continue to discuss your lack of understanding BBQ guns in private feel free to PM me at your leasure.
