Lets hear your favorite jhp brand and weight
Federal HST's and CORBON (sierra hp's, not the powerball) are my favorites, here's why:
these brands always expand consistently in ballistic tests, even through clothing, and with standard pressure (HST's only, corbons are all +P)
i know gold dot's are popular, but i have seen too many tests where GD's did not expand at all through clothing, or very little through bare ballistic gelatin. for this reason i would never use them. not sure why GD's are so popular.
i prefer the light weight jhp's because they penetrate less, and here's why:
the more penetration a jhp has the more energy it takes with it when it leaves the target. as apposed to dumping more of it's energy INTO the target-which is more affective.
law enforcement uses heavier jhp's because they often encounter situations where the added penetration is needed, but it is often at the cost of loosing some effectiveness.
165 grn 40 cal jhp's are more affective than 180 grn, and 115 9mm jhp's are usually more affective stoppers than the 147 grn's for this reason.
many people nowadays use the heavier jhp's, under the false impression that heavier is better, it's all about the energy delivered into the target.
lets hear some more favorites, and why.
