I have always liked Dissipators.
Here's my FDE Dissipator with a rifle gas system.

And here's my extra one with a mid-length gas system.

I prefer my Dissipators with a fixed stock. I know that some like them with adjustable stocks. So let's see those Dissipators.

So I take it the top one is running a normal gas block in the rifle length position, and the bottom one is using a “false” front gas block to act as the front sight with a compact gas block hidden under the hand guards right?

Gunny what stock do have on that?
It’s the Magpul MOE Rifle stock.
A little background on the dissipator platform. The dissipators hit the market back around the early 80. They were made with heavy 16” machine gun barrels with a front sight tower . It was also designed with a rifle gas system.
The concept was for use in embassies where it would be more maneuverable then a rifle with a 20” barrel, but still have the sight radius that allowed you to engage targets at longer distances. The heavy barrel was for better control when firing full auto.
Now you have to remember that back in the 80s they didn’t have red dot or holographic sights like today and fixed sights were the norm.
I have seen where people argue about what is and isn’t a dissipator. But if you want to get right down to it, it’s a 16” barrel with a front sight tower at rifle length. You can go flattop or carry handle, use a red dot or other sights. And you can also go with a shorter gas system.
The 15” rail on a AR pretty much does the same thing, as in giving you that longer sight radius, but it’s just not a dissipator.
I love my dissipator with the rifle gas system. It’s the smoothest shooting AR I have.

hey, i was thinking of doing something similar to the one on the bottom, did you put the sight on yourself or have it done? Im looking for a good way to attach the pins.
If you look around you can find barrels already set up.
I got it from Palmetto State Armory. They’re out of stock right now.

thanks, but Im looking for a 300 BO barrel -cheap cast bullets- with a midlength sight, mostly because I like the extra grip, and the sights are a little easier. It will be open sighted. my current plan is shimstock, but if theres an easier way, I would try that.

Why not just buy a carbine length gas system barrel and use a FF forend to which you can mount a sight? Or same with a constant size barrel to which you can drill a slight recess and setscrew attach the a2 style front sight tower (with locktite)?

I can’t believe that no one else has a Dissipator.
Well... I have been looking at new barrels since I don't like my carbine barrel. If I swap it I'm back and forth on a dissy or another target barrel. I just hate to spend 500 on a quality 20 practical barrel. I keep looking at wierd caliber barrels as that makes me happy, but seems that not many folks chamber odd barrel profiles in odd calibers...something about there being no demand and they are out to make money and other such nonsense...

In "classic" configuration with a true rifle length system, I have to question whether it's a good idea...

I'm thinking more now...smoke rolling from ears and all... If I built another pistol upper for the little gun, I could use a pistol gas length under a FF handguard and scoot my a2 sight post out a couple more inches to increase sight radius and hopefully increase accuracy.... maybe a pissy-dissy is in my future?

If I knew where to find a dissipater with a pencil barrel, I'd already own one. But all the ones I see are HBARs. I like the look, and love the idea of getting all the action length and sight radius you can out of the minimum length barrel. But an heavy barrel in a carbine is a deal breaker for me.

All I have are 2 middys and a carbine-length, oh, and my Colt H-Bar A2. The carbine was bought as a project gun, it will probably get a full-length, 16-18" barrel when I rebarrel it.

But an heavy barrel in a carbine is a deal breaker for me.

I put a pencil barrel on my lightweight carbine... which is nice to carry, not so nice to shoot. MAN that thing heats up fast!

Nice dissipators
I have one, but until I can find another site, other than photobucket....will post pics
