He's about 8 1/2 months old now.

Not your typical bird dogs (Miniature Schnauzers). Marriage is full of compromises.....wife wanted house dogs, I wanted hunting dogs.....dogs don't know the difference.

Must be a vizsla thing. I think this was at 5 moths.

Really enjoying this thread. I've always wanted a bird dog, but I'm gonna have to wait until my situation is a little better for a dog (don't really have a lot of living space right now).

Anyone have a Weimaraner? Always loved the looks of those dogs and heard great things about them as a hunter.

This one wishes he was a bird dog, but I'm more of a deer/hog/varmint hunter. He does retreive unbroken clay pigeons though. :D

Oh...Ignore the little one. He's pretty useless. :D

I've had three, wonderful dogs. Great in the field or the water. I've read numerous times that they're a little nervous in the personality department and not too good around kids. I've found these statements to be anything but true. Great family dogs and very loyal. They call them the gray ghost but mine were a little more on the sand color side of things.

My dog and best friend for the past 8 years died on February 9th from complications related to auto immune disease, which was triggered by a tick bite. Please check your pets thoroughly (even in the winter).

He's left a huge hole in our hearts, but hopefully this little guy will fill it.

He was born on December 20th and we first met on Saturday. I expect great things from him. He's certainly got an impressive enough pedigree.

Thats a gorgeous German Shorthaired Pointer. I've always wanted one, and almost purchased one instead of another lab. But then I wondered about the shorthair and cold sea duck water and thought better of it.

Thanks countertop,

She's my second shorthair, an excellent hunter with a sweet disposition. She loves the water (she think she's a lab), and does ok when it's cold as long as she can stay active.

That said, I think she would drive me crazy in a duck blind! Pheasants and huns are all she's ever hunted.

ps - When it comes time for another dog, a shorthair it will be. I'm a huge fan of the breed.

Countertop There isn't much cuter than a lab pup. Given their propensity for chewing I think the old saying "God made puppies cute so you won't kill them" probably has some truth to it.

Rembrandt...

what kind of birds do you hunt w/ those two? sometimes you dont know what you've got till you take the little buggers in the field! I had one of my best bird dogs be my older sister's "I've gotta have that little one" pets. She went to college and I went to work training a mutt mostly. He was a carin terrier. Bet, we shot over 1k woodcock and pat's over that dog. Wasnt perfect though you had to race that little guy (18#s) to the downed bird or you wouldnt be eating it...

I'll see if i can scounge up and scan an old photo...

Welsh springer spaniel

This is what replaced willie when he died..

He was a hunting machine. His only problem was, he liked to chew on my wife. He died of cancer before my wife could do it.

And finally now were onto this. My wife and kids pick (just so you know that's not how you should pick your hunting dogs). Santa vetoed another welsh springer this christmas. Maybe next christmas if i'm good...
