well I just recently bought my first M1 Garand...

5.8XX-XXX Springfield.

original barrel

MW= <1
TE = 2

Im very impressed with this gun... Has the DAS cartouche and the cicle-P stamp...

everybody complains about the weight of it, but I dont mind...

I bought it off a man who was liquidating his fantastic collection due to advancing health problems...

CMP rifle... I have no idea what grade... if it was a service grade this man was the luckiest S.G. buyer I have seen in a while...

I just dont know what it is about these Garands... seems like they really cared about form AND function back then...

anybody else really into Garands?

i would love to see some photos...

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

My rifles....both has been accurized. They do not have match barrels on them but thay are Douglas 'GI profile' preium barrels.

The .308 is glass bedded...coarse the new barrel...the 'smith' who worked on it knows his trade well. He done that type of work when he was in the Army and Guard. It definatley shoots better than I can shot it....

where are the competitions held?

its amazing the knowledge some people have about these Garands... I was looking at one from one guy who owned 39 M1 Garands that he would NOT sell... he had been workin on them for 20 years...

I wouldnt mind finding out where I could go see a competition with these old guns...

They just dont make 'em like they used to.

Here's my pride and joy, a 1942 Springfield Armory that I got from CMP as a Service Grade back around 2002. I shot it a while as is, but it couldn't do better than 6" groups @ 100 yards with Danish M2 from a bench or prone. It also had a bad habbit of doubling every once in a while. That would scare the bejezus out of me when it did that and I completely lost faith in the rifle, so I finally sent it to Deans Gun Restorations for a rebuild, trigger job and a new 7.62x51 barrel. He gave it a full inspection, replaced the springs, two minor parts, mounted the new Barnett barrel, parkerized everything, and gave it a new Wenig stock. Dean performed absolute magic on this old soldier, making it look, work and feel brand new all over again. It looked so good when it came back, I added a new Turner 1907 spring also. Now it shoots like a laser beam and is completely reliable as well. Oh, I added NM sights from Fulton Armory too.

Johnny: Camp Perry

The local clubs up there and the CMP matches feature Garands. During CMP week in August there will be 1000 plus people shooting Garands during the Garand match.

Yes...beautiful Garand DMK!

Johnnyonthespot....where bouts in Ohio are you located?...Macksburg area?
If so...you may be talking about Vince Vega?

Id say he makes some good money re-furbing these old Garands...

what year is that HRA collector RellaScout?

thats a nice gun.

I dont know squat about the carbines but that one looks nice too...

How many companies made those carbines anyway?

The HRA was bought from CMP in 2000 before the current crop of Greek imports. I traded for it the week.

The Carbine is mix master. It is a IBM with some correct parts but a Winchester Stock.

Wow thats a field grade dirtypacman?

whats the bore/muzzle like?

Its near perfect condition - CMP gave me a real beauty.. showed it to some old timers that are big into milsurp and they just could not believe the condition that I received. Said I should be very happy with that rifle and I have been.

February 1943 Winchester with a Winchester stock and the rest is pretty much SA. Traded a $295 HRA rack grade for this one straight up at a local shop. I had other HRA's and SA, but needed a Winchester and this one turned out to be a great shooter. (still waiting on the allusive IHC)

My god, that is the nicest stock I've ever seen on a service grade rifle, highorder!
