M1Garands015.jpg

This is a Springfield that was manufactured in early Dec. 1941, just before or just after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

This is another photo of same rifle.

M1Garands013.jpg

Top - a rebuilt Winchester Carbine
middle - the 1941 Springfield
bottom - a 1955 manufactured International Harvester which I got from DCM (CMP) back in Dec. of 1984. Just dug up the paperwork and see that, at the time, this gun was classified as a "service grade" "condition B". At this time DCM realized that the $ 94.30 price plus shipping of $ 16.55 was to cheap so they added an "Administrative charge" of $ 54.55, for a grand total of $ 165.00. Thought I took a beating back in 1984.:D

Last picture is what went in the butt trap, at least in the picture on the right is what was stored in butt traps of the Marines M1 Garands in mid 50s when I served. The other is the nickel plated brass case and M3 combination tool of early WW2

Hope all this works as it is the first time I attempted posting pictures on this site.

I heard that in addition to being a member of an approved club, you have to prove to CMP that you attended one of their matches to get a Garand from them. Is this true?

As Rugerlvr has said, and also, if you are over 60 like some of us, no proof of marksmanship is required. Don't know why this is and guess it may be better not to even go there.

Want to see how a WWII Silver Star holds an M1

The fellow in this picture is a WWII Army Bronze and Silver Star recipient.
Here he is 60 years later checking out an M1.

Here's a couple (lousy) pics of my DCM Garand, along with a war trophy Mauser 98k, which my late father brought back from The War....

This one was redone by Dean at DGR Guns in Tennessee. I love the stock. The two contrasting patterns in the wood will diffract light producing different patterns, depending on which angle you are looking from. This one is a Danish rifle from the CMP with a VAR barrel. I got it from a fellow High Roader.

"Did he ever tell you the story behind the Mauser??"

The Mauser was with a huge pile of other confiscated rifles. Except that these rifles had never been issued -- this particular one was drowning in cosmoline.

It's never been fired. I don't know if it ever will be. It certainly isn't especially valuable, except in memories....

Well that depends. If it was all matching, its worth at least 450-600, even for common makers. Quite often though, the captures/bring backs have a mis-matched bolt - as all bolts were usually removed during transport.

My M1

As received and after cleanup.

Would love to show off my CMP Service grade but I sent it off for new wood and checkout. Hope to have it back soon. Been 50 years since I field stripped one of these things but it comes back like the first kiss from your best girl at 18.

The crown and chamber look really good.

I just finished cleaning it up a bit and it looks like the Bolt, Op Rod, and Stock are HRA. The reciever and trigger assy are Springfield Armory.

Nice one crazy! Does anyone know if you can order a carbine and garand in the same order? I can't decide if I want a garand with a M1carbine, ar15 or M&P 9mm.
