I bought this scope, 3-9x40, with the thought of putting it on one of my rimfires (.22, .22Mag or .17HMR). I did not even think about the parallax because I was so excited about the reticle. Well, I found out quickly that the parallax is set at 150 yds. which is not going to work well for me. I am considering putting it on my CZ .22 Hornet but still think I will have a parallax issue.

I think I am going to send it back to Leupold and have the parallax changed to 60-70 yds. It is going on one of these rifles, I just need help from someone with more experience to help me decide what I should do about the parallax. Currently it is a bit blurry at close range. Thanks.

They make IIRC 3 versions of VX Freedom rimfire scopes.
2-7X and 3-9X w fixed objective and a 3-9X adjustable objective.

Sounds like you bought a regular VX freedom 3-9X

Should be $25 plus shipping to have the parallax adjusted.

Using a fixed objective "regular" big game scope at 25 yards, about 4X is about it on mag.
Had 2-7X and 2.5-8X Leupolds, and had them at 6X at 50 yards. Still couldn't crank them up all the way and focus.

Note: the EFR VX Freedom is 33mm front, and has a rather straight eyepiece. Looks a little funky.
I bought mine because it was the only rimfire Freedom they had w reg duplex crosshair.
The other rimfire models use some other reticle.

Yes, I made an expensive little mistake. The 3-9x40 Rimfire model has the parallax set at 60 yds., I doubt I will hardly ever shoot it over 100 yards. The more I think about it the more I am certain it will be going on my Tikka .17HMR.

Every scope on all of my 22's is a big game scope with parallax set at 150 yards. It has never been an issue. You can focus the scope for any range you want to. But if you do focus at 50 yards it will be out of focus at 100. If you decide to shoot farther just re-focus for the longer range. Any aiming error due to parallax will be no more than the diameter of one of your bullets at 100 yards and as long as you're directly behind the scope there will be none.

I have finally come to the conclusion that I am being a bit too anal about this. I am going to mount it again and start shooting. Thanks.....

Big game scopes (150 yard parallax) work fine on .22 rifles at 25 yards........at about a max of 4X.
About 6x at 50 yards.
Aint gonna work at higher mags up close.

OP.........your mistake of a big game scope of higher mag, wanted for rimfire application.........isn't too expensive a mistake.
$25 bucks plus shipping and Leupold can change it.

AO........is the way to go.

That was a friction knob Vari X II..........so I ditched it and went 3-9X EFR Freedom VX
I aint gonna shoot offhand at 12X LOL
Verified my build's accuracy with that scope.

Hunting, I run 4-6X offhand.
