She have a sister? :D

Oddly, my ex-m-i-l wasn't near the problem with guns my parents turned out to be. Considering Dad being career military, both grandparents being NYC cops, i figured Mom would just take 'em in stride. Not so much... Ah well - i just don't offer to take HER to the range with me when they're in town. Dad and I just say we're going to the bar instead :neener:

boundary issues.
I had trouble with the liberal inlaws early in our relationship. I/we established some boundaries and have had no problems in the 16 years since.
not that difficult really. just gotta decide what they are and how to communicate them to the other party. The house is collectively yours and your wife's and you DO have some leverage there.

Funny how both my outlaws, my exs parents and the parents of my GF are both very liberal. But, they all know I carry, and have multiple tactical firearms and training, and say they will come over to my house if the SHTF! They can complain to hell and back about my having and carrying guns, but will come to me first if it comes down the hard way! :what: I think this is yet another display of how friggin hypocritical the liberals side is. If this scenario happened to me, I would personally make said libby boy look foolish in front of everybody in a intelligent way at the next family get together.

My inlaws are only softly antigun, namely I know they disapprove but they wouldn't say anything out of politeness.

Interestingly two of my liberal anti-gun colleagues at work ended up calling me for help because of my firearms. In one case it was a rabid squirrel in the backyard that needed to be "dealth with extreme prejudice". In the other case another woman was alone at home with the kids while the husband was on travel and the burglar alarm went off and she was understandbly scared and needed somebody to help "clear the house". Somehow having a guy with a 12 gauge pump next to her made her feel better... I think after these events I have detected a softening in their anti-gun stance...Probably for many antigun folks in good faith their ideas are the result of wishful thinking more than anything else.

No sister, sorry. My mother and I have had something of a dispute over the .38 in my car, but she didn't seem to mind calling me to escort her 20 feet in a parking lot when she worked late this summer. Luckily my father is an Army veteran and knows that kids just love Mossberg 500s for Xmas when they get tired of a single shot .22. Come to think of it now I seem to shoot the .22 more than the shotgun since I have missed the last 3 dove seasons due to college and the range charges extra for shooting clays.

My dads a big ol libby now, went to Viet Nam 4 times, guess that may do it one way or another. But he bought me my first gun, a Wards 410 shotgun when I was 6 so I can't fault him for that! He thinks it is cool that I like to compete in 3 gun, but would never go shooting with me I'm sure.

Sounds like we can write a script for Hollywood and get Ben Stiller and De niro to act in it... "Meet The Grabbers"...

Seems to be a running theme with folks like that.
