Everyone needs to be aware of this guy in Grandbury Texas. My brother-in-law and I went into his gunshop to look for primers or anything interesting and came out with a "what an idiot" attitude. When I asked if he had primers, he said "all you want", so I told him I wanted 1,000 lp. He said "fine, and what kind of powder and bullets do you want?" He then proceeded to tell me that I had to buy a can of powder and 100 bullets for every 100 primers. Then he went into a rave about how stupid everyone was for getting into reloading when ammo went so high. He also said the gov. was working on a plan for every reloader to have a federal license (which I don't doubt). But every thing that came out of his mouth was the most negative stuff I have ever heard. In his mind he was right about everything and no one could do anything the right way. While I was looking around, a buddy of mine called from Abilene and told me Academy and Wal Mart were putting 380 ammo on the shelves and it was leaving the shelves just as fast. The shop owner told me, "No, neither place could get any 380 ammo and if they did it would only be one case." I told him that I hated my buddy had gone blind and couldn't count and said thank you but I don't need any of your stuff. He also told me that all the gun shops were selling primers, powder and bullets the same way he was. My nephew called me after I left his little hell hole and told me he just bought me a thousand large pistol primers but they had gone up a few hundred percent.

I look at ALL salesmen the same.

You had better know what you want before you show up. Either his prices are good or they aren't. I'm pretty adept at ignoring everything people say, just ask my wife.

I guess if I knew who to report him to, I probably would have that day. But now my afterthoughts are that I am glad he doesn't have a shop in my home town.

I hope you're joking. You can't report him for anything. He has a right to his opinions and the way he legally conducts business. You have a right to debate him, ignore him, and/or not do business there.

No one could report a man because of his opinions but that day by the time I left I was ready to mistreat him. Offhandedly he had called me a liar, a stupid human, a moron and a dumba$$ gun owner. My satisfaction was that he was a gun seller missing a sale and a part of the stupid human race he was trashing.

Sounds like a local owner here.

He preys on his customers fear.

He's always throwing in "better get this before Obama bans it!", "you won't be able to get these very soon!", "the feds are gonna microstamp ALL ammunition!", "I don't know if i'll be able to get that/this/those this year... you better get it here while you can before prices go up!", "I can't keep these on the shelf and they're getting very expensive".... blah blah blah

He usually throws something like this into every sentence when talkin to a customer. I went in there twice this year and haven't bought anything because he tries to scare you into buying stuff. In both cases, the customers needs and wants come 2nd.

Besides this guys bad attitude, his policy about primers makes sense in this market.

Think about it...the shop is trying to sell more reloading equipment and components than just primers. If there are no primers, it sure is hard to sell anything else. on the other hand, if you can get a primer for every bullet you buy, people will still be willing to buy bullets, dies, etc.

I wish there were more primers, but I was not offended when another reloading supply shop in the Dallas area explained their similar policy to me.

That policy doesn't appeal much to a reloader who casts his own bullets and buys powder by the 8# can. 'Course, that fellow probly has a few thousand primers already...

I know that "bundling" is a popular marketing tool, but given the wide variety of components, it's not likely that one store can stock all the available combinations, and I don't want to end up substituting 100 gr hollowpoints for 120 gr V-Maxes if that's what I've worked up a load for.

That said, there are plenty of places to buy what I want individually, so no big deal.

Re: "He also said the gov. was working on a plan for every reloader to have a federal license (which I don't doubt)." -- I think he means this treaty.

I'd be all kinds of happy to have found primers, then all kinds of sad due to the rest.

Don't need your powder, unless it's real Black. Don't need your bullets, unless they're lead and lubed for BP. Though I could make due with other hardcast rounds, just a pain to hand lube them all.

The attitude, though, would have driven me out too quickly to have asked many questions.

I was going to conform to his rule about powder and bullets but a can of powder will load a whole lot more than 100 rounds. I fully understand his situation and don't blame his selling tactics but sometimes an a$$ is just an a$$ and in this case I found the father of them all.

You got off light. He has been known to yell at people for using a cell phone in his shop!

I have no idea how this guy is still in business! I don't know any gun owners in Granbury who shop there because of this idiot.

I walked in 10 minutes before closing, and he refused to help me in any way because he had just shut his computer down. And he stood there and looked at me like I was the idiot!

There are more stories like this one, everyone in Granbury has one! Unfortunately, this is the only shop in town too.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm a huge gun aficionado....but gun shop owners seem to have more than their share of real A** holes.

He then proceeded to tell me that I had to buy a can of powder and 100 bullets for every 100 primers.
10 pounds of powder and 1k bullets for every thousand primers? Yikes

I don't remember who originally said it here but the phrase was something along the lines of "dealers don't go into business to make money, they go into business to tell people NO"

This reminds me of a story told by a woman I know who grew up in a Soviet satellite country. She told me that when she was a kid the state store would often tape slow selling items to best selling items. For example, you might want to buy batteries but they were taped to a can of beans so that you had to buy the package deal.

If it's the guy I and thinking about he has been there for years and won't going anyhwere anytime soon. He has hundreds of vintage Colts hanging on the wall and a funny looking statue of a hunter with a giant shotgun out front.

Ahh yesss... You would be talking about Murle. I think he's been there for about 30 years. He'll also be happy to do an FFL transfer for you for the low price of $50.

For those of you who have never been there, this is a true one man operation. I've never seen another employee working at the shop. Do not try and have a conversation with this man. Whatever you say, it WILL BE WRONG!!! If John Moses Browning were to come back from the dead tomorrow and enter this shop, Murle would insist on arguing with him and insist he (and not John) was correct.

Your first clue as to this store owner's general attitude should have been the sign out front stating that concealed weapons are not allowed and the other sign that states "No killing time! We are here to make a living, not entertain!"......

It's a shame that Slack's Guns down in Granbury couldn't stay in business. He didn't have tons of stuff, but at least he was friendly.....

I'm going to make a suggestion here.

Has anyone called this guy on the carpet for being a Jerk? I'd ask him why he's such a #%%? Sometimes this works with these clowns--They know they are pieces of work and sometimes just do it because people let them get away with it.

Obviously if he's been in business 30 years and some other guy couldn't make it he sells some products. Someone has to like him a little.

Wow.

I paid a lot more than I should've today at a gun store for a box of Cor Bon, I don't feel bad that I did it, because the guys that work there are great dudes who will help anyone out.

I walked out of a gun store today because one employee chastised another for giving a 10% discount on a box of ammo. "WE ONLY MAKE 40 CENTS PROFIT ON THAT BOX!, WAHHH WAHH WAHH."

Forty cents profit on a $35 box of Hornady?

Give me a break.

People who've been jerks their entire life just assume you're a jerk when you point it out to them. He'll likely be arguing with St. Peter when he calls him out on it.
