Rather than highjack this interesting thread (http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=259361), I'm starting this new one with a simple question (at least I hope it's simple).

How long should I reasonably expect a .22 suppressor to last? At the price, I'd hope it would be something like forever, but that's rarely the case with all the fun things in life, is it? ;)

Are any brands / makes esp. long-lived? (Or, also helpful, are any known to have shorter lifespans than others?) Are there .22 suppressors with any degree of user maintainability? (So wear-prone parts could be replaced, without replacing the suppressor as a legally defined device.) If I were to get one of these, I'd like it to last for a long time, that's for sure!

(Aside: The restrictions on suppressors are shameful, but they exist for now ... *that* might be a decent nexus of the medical and political, next time holier-than-thou medical organizations want to complain about the ongoing dangers of firearms.)

Cheers,

timothy

p.s. OK, I see now that it's not simple :) Also, considering the cost / hassle of acquiring such a thing, I hope the suppressor makers have good warranty service!

Most suppressors have lifetime warranty anyway and I have a customer who has by now over 6.000 rounds through a Outback II!
I don't know what local restricitions you have in PA (in Maine for example you can't hunt with one), but other then that, you can't travel with one out of state without NFA appruval.
So that is not so bad!
Or do you mean the $200 and paperwork?

Yep -- and concomitant loss of privacy.

6000 rounds is quite a few, and lifetime warranty is a good thing.

Since I'm not sure where I'll live a year from now (another year of law school), I'll certainly be delaying for a while from now, but it would be nice to have a quiet gun for target shooting. (Not interested in hunting, at least not right now.)

Thanks for the information!

timothy

The moving thing is of cause a problem, if you get a job in a state or town which don't alow suppressors.
One way to handle is, to form a trust or a LLC and have this trust/LLC buy the suppressor and then you can keep it in a safe deposit box or at relatives.
Of cause this is more money ....
