i recently bought a used but unfired Gunsite Scout. Like the rifle very well except for the trigger pull weight. Break is crisp, but I'd like a lighter pull. I've looked online, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Is there a lighter trigger spring available? Don't really want an aftermarket trigger if this one can be tuned.

I was looking at the same for my GSR. I haven't come up with a solution yet. I should ask a guy on another forum that I know shoots the GSR a lot.

I send a PM on the other forum to see what he says. Will update. Will also read this one to see what others are saying.

Use caution when putting a lighter trigger spring on the Rugers. The same spring powers the trigger and sear so going too light can cause sear reset issues. Yes, the trigger pull can be improved but do plenty of testing before you call it good.
I keep a large assortment of springs and just swap them until I get the desired results.

They're in stock now. I ordered 3 more myself when I went to his site yesterday to copy the link. I gots' bunches of M77 MkII's and Hawkeyes, some with Ernie's springs, a couple Jard's, a Spec Tech, some Wolff Springs, a couple Rifle Basix, a couple of the 2 stage factory Ruger triggers, and a whole bunch of Timney's... All of them work, but Ernie's springs are the only ones you'll find for $6!

I ordered one a couple days ago, and will install it and polish the mating surfaces. Do you know the torque specs for the receiver bolts?

Ruger spec's for the GSR action screws are 90in.lb. in the front, angled screw, followed by 10in.lb. to secure the rear. I've not had a Ruger M77MkII or Hawkeye, including my GSR, shoot optimally below 65in.lb. on the front screw, and the factory 90in.lb. spec has never been "wrong" for me, albeit a pain in the butt.

Polished the sear and trigger today with my dremels polishing wheel and some metal polish. Got them to a mirror finish, but didn't change any surface angles. This got rid of the majority of creep, and the new spring cut the pull weight by about 1 1/2 pounds.

I don't have a trigger pull scale, but I'm guessing 2 1/2- 3 pounds. Break is very crisp, and a BIG improvement over factory. This trigger job cost $10, and about 30 minutes of my time.
