Just curious what the lightest MBR in 7.62NATO is. Most of the ones I am

familiar with aproach 10lbs.

My L1A1 dials in at approx 9 lbs .... and cannot think of anything much in that cal which will be significantly lighter.

I was looking for a handy .308 for the car, ended up with a DSA carbine that comes in at eight and a quarter plus ammo. It's light and short enough to handle easy, and heavy enough that recoil is no biggie. I like it!

CETME?

I shot a friends Saturday and I'm pretty sure it's a good bit lighter than my FAL.

Do mini-galils come in .308 ? If it does I'd imagine it would be pretty light. The HK51 might be a close contender as well. They're based on MBRs but the barrels are much shorter.

This is from memory, so please forgive any errors...

The M1a, standard, 20" rack-grade rifle weighs in at about 8-3/4 pounds. I assume that the shorter-barreled versions, the M1 SOCOM and such, would be lighter.

The Armalite AR10, again with a standard 20" barrel, runs a bit over 9 pounds. If you build an AR10 with lightweight components, you should be able to get the overall weight down to around 8 or 8-1/2, maybe less.

FALs and HK91s in standard configuration both tip the scales at around 10 pounds. Lightweight versions do exist, such as the old DSA SA-58 Lightweight Carbine, which was supposed to weigh under 8 pounds. Impressive...

Pay your money, take your chances.
