After some consideration I plunked down some dough on a 556r 7.62x39 Sig Sauer. Here are my impressions. I bought my first milled Bulgarian kalash style rifle in 1997 or thereabouts and have owned about a dozen different variants since then. How does the Sig stack up? Pretty well. The thing which helps the most is the solid top rail for mounting scopes. This is secured with three machine screws, which I took out, applied thread locker to and retorqued to 35 in. Lbs. The trigger is different than about anything I have tried, but it is strangely predictable. It is a two stage of sorts. With the rings and scope I am using on this one cheek weld, eye relief are perfect. Accuracy is slightly better than most AKs but you will find an occasional Bulgy which will hold its own against these. With federal soft point brass case ammo, this particular unit is giving 2.5 MOA accuracy at 200 yds. and 100% reliability. This is deer, hog and coyote accuracy to this range for sure, prairie dog? Maybe not so much. .Zombies lurking in a 3 gun stage? Oh yeah!!
Rapid fire with these in semi auto is at least as fast as an AK in 7.62 and I think faster. If you want an AK to run this fast I would go with a 74 in 5.45 with the brake. I would also run an Ace sidefolder adjusted up to lower the bore in relation to the shoulder which would help bring recoil straight back and reduce muzzle climb.
The Sig is serious fun no doubt about it. Should you buy one? Well, if you are trying to decide between the Sig and the high end AK, I would say if you are dead set on optics for the rifle get the Sig. If you are just fine with open sights then get the AK, throw a sling on it and get to shooting
