An FBI Special Agent is issued a Glock Model 22 pistol or a Glock 23 in .40 S&W caliber. If they fail their first qualification, they will be issued either a Glock 17 or Glock 19 to aid in their next qualification. New agents are issued their firearm with which they qualify, upon successful completion of their training at the FBI Academy. The Glock 26 in 9mm Luger, and Glock Models 23, and 27 in .40 S&W caliber are authorized as secondary weapons. Special Agents are authorized to purchase and qualify with the Glock Model 21 in .45 ACP for duty carry. Special Agents of the FBI HRT (Hostage Rescue Team), and regional SWAT teams are issued the Springfield Operator or Professional Model 1911A1 .45 ACP Pistol

DEA agents' primary service weapons are the Glock 22 and Glock 23 in .40 S&W caliber ammunition, DEA agents can also qualify to use the Glock 27 and SIG Pro in .40 S&W. They also have the option of using the newly appointed Smith & Wesson M&P series pistol. H&K UMP40 in .40 S&W is the standard SMG. Shotguns such as the Remington 870 are used. They use assault rifles like Rock River Arms CAR-A4 DEA Carbine
CE HSI Special Agents and ERO Officers and Agents carry the SIG-Sauer P229R pistol, with the DAK (Double Action Kellerman) trigger pull, chambered in the .40 S&W caliber cartridge, as their primary sidearm. Secondary weapons are on a list of authorized weapons published by the agency to its agents and officers. They also may be assigned the Remington Model 870 shotgun, the Steyr AUG rifle, or the Colt M4 carbine. Agents and officers assigned to a Special Response Team (SRT) are specifically assigned the Colt M4 carbine while some operators may also carry the Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun, although these are being replaced by the Heckler & Koch UMP in .40 S&W.[11]
USSS Special Agents and Uniformed Division Officers carry the SIG Sauer P229 pistol chambered for the .357 SIG cartridge,[39] or the FN Five-seven pistol chambered for the 5.7x28mm cartridge.[40] Agents and Officers are also trained on close-combat weapons such as the Remington 870 shotgun, the FN P90 submachine gun, and the HK MP5.[

I don't believe I saw my wife's agency. Toledo, Oh, city police. She was issued a 40 cal Sig 226. She says they do allow the smaller Sigs now, but she doesn't know the model numbers. TPD moved up from the 9mm Sig 226s a few years ago.

So many agencies with the 40 slow and weak, I cant expain why but I have no use for this caliber, if you want a 40 caliber auto tham why oh why dont you use a 10mm. Just color me a 40 hater

My pd allows a wide range of calibers and guns, but we buy our own.

Snort. While I firmly believe that the .40 is a solution in search of a problem, I somehow can't imagine we have the same view of the cartridge. I am firmly of the opinion that it's far overpowered for 99% of what it's called on to do. I believe that a .38 Special +P or 9mm +P will do as well if not better, IMHO, than the .40 S&W almost every time. You seem to thing that it's not strong enough? Considering the 125gr .357 Magnum problem, may I enquire what you think is an appropriate chambering?

well now that you mention it, I believe the 125gr 357 magnum is about perfect. I carry a glock 35 converted to 357sig.

The US Federal Air Marshal Service signed a multi-million dollar contract for procurement of the SIG Sauer P250 Compact chambered for the .357 SIG cartridge in 2009.[14]

That contract was cancelled... Marshals have the choice of the 229 or the 239 for duty carry. Both are DA/SA in 357 sig.

Nassau County PD (NY) just switched over to the 229DAK and the 226DAK (officers choice) in 40. for the past 15 or 20 years they carried the 226 DAO in 9mm.
