Little Disappointed With My Ruger

Trust me the Ruger of today is a different company

We lost lots of good models and options like the “Old Army” for what….just more of the same that everyone else makes and nothing unique. The bad QC and recalls are embarrassing.

I've had two LCPs and never had a problem.

I use the Eezox linked to in post 18...check his link to a corrosion test where Eezox does very well. I've been using it since I first saw that test, seven or eight years ago.

It is an exceptional anti-corrosion coating, and is a reasonably good CLP if you just want to use one product. The only downside is finding it. I have to order it and pay shipping, so I try to make it last. As such, I use Ed's Red (google it) for a CL and Eezox for a P. :)

Ummm S&W has had plenty of recalls too....Glock has had some problems which they refused to implement recalls for...please don't play the QC and recall card because it is the same story for most gun makers. Ruger also sells more guns than anyone else.

I was greatly disappointed with my glock gen 3 19. It was stovepiping and tossing brass to my face and everywhere else. It only took glock twice to get her up and running. Now I can't trust the pistol so I got a xds in .45 and it is much better for me. By the way I have a lcp and I must be approaching 500 rounds with no malfunctions of any kind and accuracy that amazed me for such a small pistol.

My daily carry is a Glock 36, about 8 years old. It gets shot a lot
and cleaned ....not so much. No rust and almost no finish wear.
My LCP gets carried mostly when the Glock is too big and when walking
or biking so it gets sweat on it and it rusts. Mostly the mag release
and spring and a bit on the barrel and slide. I'm still happy with it,
it is what it is. Paid $279 for it and about $500 for the Glock.
It bugged me when I first noticed it..... but I got over it.
Someday I might get bored enough to mill out a stainless mag
release....or not.

Ok if you got all black version the slide oxidizes easily plus slide closes after last empty casing leaves the chamber. Glock product is big notch above any pistol Strum & Ruger makes that is why militaries and PDs all over the world use Glocks not Rugers.

Glock doesn't produce anything nearly as good for hunting as the Super Redhawk. Glock also trails Ruger in single action shooting competition. They have a ways to go to reach the MKIII in 22 accuracy. I don't have a lot of experience with Glock shotguns or rifles so I won't comment on them.

Glock does 1 thing pretty good. Ruger does a lot of things very good. Glock has a ways to go to before it is nearly as good a gun maker as Ruger

Meh. Guns are metal, metal rusts. My PF9 is rusting right this minute, as we speak. I simply do not care.

Glock puts a more protective finish on their guns than Ruger put on the LCP. If you're concerned about the slide, get it ceracoated.

Tennifer is nothing more than a trade name for salt bath nitriding.
A nitrided finish is harder and more rust resistant than either stainless steel or hard chrome.
The Ruger SR series slides are offered in black nitride or stainless steel.
The original SRs had blackened stainless slides, as opposed to nitrided.
My SR9 slide hasn't rusted or shown any signs of finish wear.

I wish Ruger could replace the bluing on their revolvers with a black nitride finish.

I have a Kel Tec P11 that is blued. If I carry it without taking it out & cleaning it periodically it will rust. Rugers SR series guns are either stainless or a blued alloy steel. The alloy steel guns go through a salt nitriding treatment similar to tenifer or melonite. The process is somewhat different but that is I believe because of the EPA laws. They could not legally use the same process Glock does in this country. The LCP,LC9 etc. are more similar to Kel Tec type pistols than anything Glock makes-2 different animals.

I'm on my second LCP, and my wife also has one. I have never had any problems with the finish, but I don't leave it in a holster (pocket holster) at night, and I apply FP-10 or Break-Free LP every few days. Let it "soak" for an hour or so and wipe dry.

I have never heard that before. I know it is tough, but it is more rust resistant than stainless?

My XD has a nitrided finish. About 5 years ago I decided to put night sights on it. In the process of driving the old sights out I damaged a small place in the black finish of the slide. I haven't went to any great pains to keep it oiled or waxed or anything else. It hasn't had a speck of rust on it and it lives in a leather holster. The nitriding process actually penetrates into the metal. The black you see is just a painted on finish over the treated metal.

Salt bath nitriding does produce a black surface layer. I watched an episode of Modern Marvels and the company spokesman for a company that does it even said, "just like the Model T, it comes in any color you want as long as it's black".

Apparently the black surface layer is magnetite and or hematite

Here is another one talking about "black nitriding"

My "light carry" is a blued SR9c. It has seen water, snow and sweat with not a speck of rust. The only thing I have to clean off of it is some holster wear and lint from my jeans.

Regardless of brand, I told this about gun finish many times before and will say it again.

Blued finish is not better than noting. It's, for all practical purpose, equal to nothing. A steel with equal to nothing finish will rust very easily. It's only a matter of time.

YMMV but Wikipedia says that Renaissance Wax is best used on much handled metals as museums do on swords, etc. So +1 on that and priced at $12 on Amazon (So I may spring for some).

Ruger is THE BOMB for stainless revolvers. Not so for semi.
For semi, Glock is the Bargain Bentley. Fewer parts to go wrong than most semi, harder to jam, easier to maintain.

I have Mossy 500 12 ga, Ruger SP101 .357 (favorite gun ever), and Glock 19.
Currently the SP101 gets the bulk of my range time.

You should be wiping it down at least once a week, if you carry it. I had one in my pocket for a couple of years, with no problem.
