Camping With Bears...
I found the Park/Forest references to be a little confusing myself, but I did look up the regulations regarding Yellow Stone-- the park I have visited which has a history of bear problems. This is true of all "National Parks", yes?...

"Firearms are not allowed within Yellowstone National Park. Pistols, shotguns, rifles or any other fired weapon are not allowed inside Yellowstone, but may be transported through the park..."
What's wrong with this picture? Yes, bears can be dangerous and you should take precautions, but, no, you may not carry a gun to protect your family. Along with the "guns are bad" attitude you hear from so many sources, these kinds of restrictions are not helping people make good choices about self defense. I will not go into the woods unarmed. The safety of my family comes first.

This was one of the reactions, and my reply, from the AOL news board:

You have to be a hunter. A "hunter" is someone who lives behind the facade of "we hunt because animals are suffering". No. What it should be is:"We hunt because we love to kill defenseless creatures and watch them suffer if they do not die immediately". Face it, hunting is THE blood sport of morons. Please do not tell me that you hunt to put food on your table . Those days are gone. Just get yourself to Stop and Shop to the meat case and purchase the meat of some animal who sacrificed it's life for you. Why should you kill more? No, it is all about power, and cruelty, and some primitive basic instinct that some humans still cultivate. The whole point is that people like you can not stand the idea of any animals existing free. Free, to do what they wish, when they wish and are innocent. I just bet that a lot of you hunters are "trapped" in a marriage,or a life you despise, and you are jealous . And, by the way, I do not eat meat.

What a strange post. Nothing in it is true, except possibly: "I do not eat meat"... And by the way, does the Stop and Shop sell deer and elk meat? Do not presume to tell me how to live, and I will honor your freedom as well...
