Just another be careful.
Not too bad, but I now sympathize with Garand owners.
I'm normally one of the folks who harps bout firearms safety constantly, but I did a stupid.
After allowing a friend to use my Hakim rifle, I fired off a couple of magazines and noticed bolt had hung up on the last round. Rather than locking back it had stopped almost all the way back. Rather than acting like a grown up and putting it away or checking it out, I shrugged my shoulders and proceeded to top load the mag (as you are supposed to with Hakims and AG42s, those mags are a beast) and *snap* the bolt closed right on my thumb. The bolt had hung up on on something (LRBHO?, gas setting a bit too low?) yet flew back far enough to eject the spent casing, but not far enough to lock it back. Very odd since that spring is a monster, hence the pain. Kind of like a gas powered whitney punch, I lost pieces of myself in the DI gas system.
Just goes to show a firearm doesn't have to be loaded to clobber you.
Disassembly and rifle diagnosis to follow.

Been there

Been there done that (a couple times) Slow learner. Welcome to the club.

Oh yeah

These things will make SKS or garand thumb look like a small hangnail by comparison. The actions on these have a taste for human flesh and are always waiting for an unsuspecting digit to enter their hungry maw.

If I recall right, just put the safety in the middle position and it locks the bolt back. Don't have mine handy so I'll have to check later.

Edit: or was that to take it apart??? Been some years since I messed with mine. They say your memory is the 2nd thing to go, can't remember what the 1st was.

Middle position is for take down. I had the safe on but it looks like a tab of metal was stuck in back of the follower, just enough to hold the bolt back, but as soon as the follower got depressed, snap. Still puzzled why it didn't lock back, no failure to extract/low gas issues.

Wow, not user error then; a good cautionary tale all the same! I would be shocked and terrified if my Hakim slammed on me while on safe! Bad juju!

Do you know where to get extra magazines?

I also was confused about the comment that Hakims have to be top-loaded(?) Thanks!

Not that they have to be top loaded, but they were designed to be. Kind of like the SMLE has a detachable mag, but was designed to be top loaded. That is one of the reasons spare mags are so hard to find, only one produced per rifle (obviously , they made some spares to replace busted ones).
Spare 10 round mags? Whew, that is a stretch, there was a company that had after market mags some years ago, that product is long gone. You can take german mg 13 mags and mod them to fit ( as long as you have a dremel and a a way to weld stuff, pretty easy actually, there is a guy on gunbroker who sells them already done), gives you a 35 round magazine. Not sure where I got my instructions, just google "Hakim MG-13" and you should get some results, or hit up gunbroker and search for Hakim mags.

Mags are out there, at least recently Numrich had them as did Sarco for $40-50. I bought five (3 Ljungman & 2 Hakim, they appear to be interchangable) mags from a local shop for $100 which was a ridiculously good deal.

The real Hakim mags have a small mark on them that looks like somebody made a scribble with an engraving pen. The Ljungman mags will have a small crown and a couple letters usually.

There are apparently some new/reproduction mags inthe market but I haven't had a chance to see or try them out yet.
