Load Data

I don’t understand why people come to an Internet forum first when looking for load data.
ALL of the powder manufacturers have load data available.

I STRONGLY disagree. Why reinvent the wheel? Why burn $200 worth of powder and go through hundreds of bullets experimenting with loads when others have already done the research. Every single load that I currently use was " borrowed" from other people.

I wouldn't ever simply take someone else's suggested load and blindly use it. But if I'm looking for a good load for 30-06 with 180 gr bullets I'm going to ask what others are having good luck with. If I find a lot of people getting good results with 56-58 gr of H4350 then chances are good that I'll have good luck with a load in that range too.

But I'd 1st confirm that is a load listed in at least one manual. Then I'd start out a little low and work up. Which is exactly what I've done and settled on 57 gr.

I'm not saying that is the only good 30-06 load. But that is one that an awful lot of others have had good luck with. There are other combo's that I came across that were working for other people too, but for a variety of reasons that is the one I settled on. If H4350 were to ever not be available then I have alternate ideas that I could use.

Jmr40 well said. Not sure what op wants, he first said as you quoted and then later said he enjoyed seeing other folks loads. I take that as a troll and I have been watching but no idea what his original intentions are. Manuals are valuable and i have tons but real world experiences are invaluable too.

@jmr40 hit it on the head.

i walked into a now closed gun store that handled alot of reloading supplies...i was just getting into reloading 45lc and was looking at powders an employee walked over to offer help so i asked what would be a good powder to start with. he went into a hour long speech about how people shouldnt reload who dont know what they are doing and the dangers and whatnot talking down to me so i left and went home and searched thr for 45lc plinking loads went back and bought the pound of trailboss that i had in my hand when the guy walked up to me and have happily been enjoying 45lc ever since so when people ask questions i try to actually be helpful not tell them to get off my lawn. i realize the same questions get old but if your not gonna be helpful why take the time to respond at all
By telling a newer reloader to "look in your manual" is actually doing him a service, excellent advice (sorta like "Give man a fish..." advice). Telling him where to find an answer is going to help him for his entire reloading career, not just for load data but for every aspect of reloading, shooting, etc.

FWIW and I've posted it several times; My personal Rule #1, I pay very little attention to any load data I see on any forum or pet loads web site, hear from many gun counter clerk, good intended friend, range rat or gun shop guru. I get 95% of my load data from published reloading manuals with a few from powder/bullet manufacturer's websites. I keep a record of every load I assemble with notes on load, bullet, case, primer and crimp, weather, groups and my condition (headache, tired, "bad eye day", etc). I can easily go to the binder and get load data along with my impressions/reviews...

I have have one squib in 1970 and no Kabooms or near Kabooms, but I have seen posted "my favorite Unique 357 Magnum plinking load" that was about 1 1/2 grain over book max..

Check, Check, Check all the information you get from any and all sources you use. It is extremely prudent to share what we know with others trying to learn. But it is also extremely important for forums like this to point individuals toward the research steps they can employ to obtain information and compare for themselves as they move forward! We all have done that. I believe that's why we're all here. I know that's why I am.

We are all responsible for our individual safety and others while at the range enjoying our common hobby.

Safety, Safety, Safety!!!
