Loaded or Unloaded.

Shotgun, tube full, chamber empty, standing upright in the corner of my hobby room. Grandchildren are not allowed in that room by themselves, but I don't totally trust the youngest yet. Why empty chamber? small children cannot rack an 1897 Winchester.

HD Revolver always loaded, Varment rifle mag loaded, none in chamber. Target pistols, unloaded and cased. (lockable hard cases) .22 rifle mag loaded, none in chamber.

Grumpy, I like the way you think.

yes, even in the bathroom

I'll be damned if I'll be a victim of it, either.

My sister was a deputy sherriff and she won't come over to my house(she lives three blocks away) because I have, as she puts it, "too many guns just laying around".

I keep a stainless Llama .45 in the bathroom too.

Sorry your sister feels that way, Grumpy. My guns "aren't just laying around" either. But they ARE where they need to be, is case SITF. Several of my friends sort of think my actions are "over the top". But those same friends say they are coming to MY house, if the "zombies" ever come out. LOL. Go figure.

Some of my friends are a bit jealous of my collection. They say "the wife or girlfriend don't care for weapons". Guess I got lucky. MY wife is always after me to buy more ammo. (Is that perfect, or what?) Why do I have so many? Because I can. I have a friend who owns probably 150+ assorted rifles, handguns & other lethal objects. No joke. I love having them, shooting them, and cleaning them. As the saying goes...."Just because I'm paranoid, DOESN'T mean they aren't out to get me".....Hehehe

If it is a CCW gun, I leave it loaded when I lock it up. If not, I might keep a loaded mag in the weapon, but nothing in the chamber.

I may have a few loose mags loaded, but no gun in storage is loaded.

I check the chamber when I take it out of the lockbox anyway.

I'd probably have to buy more ammo if I wanted to keep all of my guns and mags loaded when stored.
I do keep all of my carry and HD pistols loaded though. No, there are no children in my home.

There is no point in keeping my other magazines loaded. State law says I'll just have to unload them again to transport the guns and empty mags to the range for shooting (with the exception of my carry guns).
.

In my home, defensive handguns are always loaded, of course, with one in the pipe where applicable; all others are unloaded unless there actually is a "zombie apocalypse" or comparable situation.

As for shotguns, many people do not keep a shell chambered because generally shotguns, by design, are not drop-safe to the same degree that most handguns are. In the context of a home invasion (as opposed to a sudden encounter in the open), it doesn't take long to chamber the first round, so the only real compromise is having one fewer round (you could always top off anyway if you have time, although I wouldn't suggest bothering with that unless you need to).

My carry gun is loaded 100% of the time, unless I am cleaning it. All other guns, I store unloaded. All magazines for my guns are loaded all the time.
DITTO with one slight variation. ALL handguns are fully loaded and secreted around the house. I don't carry inside unless something is already going on outside!
I also have two rifles loaded and ready, a 10/22 and an AK, one in a cabinet the other on a wall rack.

handgun-wise, anything with defensive merits, that I own ammo for, that has proven itself reliable, in the safe, is loaded, ready to go. I am hoping for a dearth of English teachers to harp on that sentence. Outside the safe, Mossy 500, full mag, empty chamber. Nighstand drawer, my 92fs sleeps, ready to go. Upon my safe return home, S&W .38 nuzzles alongside. 'til the EMP has proven itself an able replacement for the J-frame. Other side of the bed, my Old Lady has the original M&P service .38 resting in her nightstand. She is a much better shot with a wheelie than I have ever been. Rambling aside, my rifles, and safebound shotties are unloaded. I do however, keep a mag or four for the AR loaded.

An empty gun is a hammer

and I have plenty of hammers. I do not own a handgun that is not for self defence currently. I also don't have any kids running around my house anymore. All of my handguns stay loaded.

all of my long guns are unloaded. revolvers are left full of ammo always*. ccw pistol is always loaded with one in the tube*. *=except for training the kids, cleaning, or transporting.

Rifles and handguns in the safe not intended for home defense are unloaded. Same with shotguns. Handguns used for carry and home defense are loaded and chamber loaded and holstered. The less you have to load and unload, the fewer opportunities there are to negligently discharge a round. Rifles for home defense are magazine loaded, empty chamber. The only shotgun prepared for home defense is chamber loaded but requires cocking and flipping off the safety.

All my weapons are at the ready stage that means locked, cocked and ready to rock,ya never know when youll need them even if in the safe, less than 30seconds to open the safe, all my guns are available and ready

Most have been loaded for about as long as I've owned them, including percussion pistols, unless travelling in states the don't allow loaded firearms in vehicles.

Usually magazine loaded, chamber empty.
