Loading the FN 5.7 x 28, yes or no?

OK, I have searched and read posts, forums till my eyes glazed over. I am not any closer to a answer,

It seems to be a 50:50 on loading this pesky round.

Is it worth it? Not so much for the money, but for the safety factor?? Is it really really that tricky? Some videos show it pretty much straight forward other's are you are gonna die!

Usually when in doubt, I would say forget it but would like to know of any others here if they are happy reloading it.

I did not just fall of the reloading truck so am not new at this, no I do not load any bottle neck pistol rounds. I do load rifle rounds.

I have been reloading this round for several years without a problem , but a little more time must be spent on it that other calibers. Wash not tumble case's need the coating to prevent jamming . good set of dies, I neck size only watching shoulder, bullets I use are 40 gr v-max and Branes TSX 45 gr. powder is power pistol. Most critical part of reload is powder weight , if you do have a powder thrower that holds with a tenth of a grain weight each load separably using only a quality digital scale . For those that have their negative views on this round have definitely not spent much time with it, it is my carry pistol and my coyote and varmint AR based rifle along with a 22 Hornet.. I have taken two deer with it one at about 125 yards the other just short of 300.

I toyed with the idea of getting a FN 5.7 pistol. One of the main things was to be able to reload for it. So I also did a little research and while it can be done I was not willing to take it to the level I needed to do to reload for it. Shortly after I offered to give away the 200+ fired brass that I had collected on here and had no takers. So I recycled them.

I bought an AR 57 upper, dies, brass, bullets and gave it a go. It's definitely more work, and in the guns it is commonly chambered in the shoulder is key, and it is hard to know when it is going to fail, so giving up on a case earlier than it does is a good way to go. I got bored with it and add in the extra effort wasn't worth it for me.

For a bolt gun it would be like any other bottle necked round as far as reloading.

I neck size only watching shoulder,
What gun? You can't do that with the AR 57, the FN FiveSeven, or PS 90 because the shoulder gets blown so far forward.

Welcome to THR.

Pretty much the same here except I use True Blue powder, I full length resize range brass fired in other firearms and I load 34 grain Dogtown bullets for my AR57 upper.

I tried 32 acp and hated it. I still load .256 win mag, and don't enjoy it. The issue with these cases is the size of the components...They are too small to do by hand for an extended period. Cramps, dropped items, frustration and aggravation. So I looked at a ps90 and almost bought it along with reloading supplies. I asked to see the guys bench and 5 minutes on the press convinced me to run.

I neck size only watching shoulder, bullets .

I do not see how you can do this either?? The shoulders are pretty much "crushed"

Anyway, I "calculated" the cost of setting up for this round. Dies, Trimmer, case Gauge(would not load it without a gauge) Projectiles, (heck just the V Max would run around .14cents a round, For the amount I shoot the 5.7 just not worth it.

Bought a case of FN ammo on sale and AE ammo with a rebate, cost just a tad more than the "joy" of loading it.:)
