HI Guys, trying to tap into the vast knowledge @ THR.
Looking to verify loads for Berry's 9mm 147 gr RN Plated.for my Ruger PC9 Carbine

powders on hand:
CFE Pistol
Titegroup
HP-38
Power Pistol
Sport Pistol

Looked up sample loads in Hornady 10, Lyman 50th and the LEE Modern Reloading 2nd edition

Only the Lyman listed a lead 147. (Start w/ Titegroup - 2.5 and Power Pistol - 4.1 @ 1.058 OAL)
sound about right for plated bullet?
A 147gr TMJ starts @ 3.2 gr and 4.5 gr, respectively.

Anyone have a pet load with any of the powders i have.
BTW, this bullet plunked @ 1.164 in the PC9
Thanks, Bob

I have only chony'd MBC's 147 gr. Hi-Tek coated bullet, using CFE-P and seated @ 1.060". Worked up a load to 3.8 gr. with an average velocity of 942 fps out of a 4" barrel.
Yours isn't seated as deep, that you may be able to go above 4.0 gr.

Personally, I would avoid the faster Titegroup and HP-38, and stick with the slower burning powders in a carbine. Less chance of a stuck bullet in the barrel. Or work up a proper load in a pistol barrel 1st, at least.

I have loaded a lot (several hundred thousand) of their 147 RN bullets 3.2gn of TG @ 1.160” will make minor and is my #3 load for them, the top two are with N310 and N320. TG is very close to N320 just not as clean, quite a bit cheaper though. N310 is faster than either and gives less perceived recoil.

3.2 gr. Sport Pistol
147 gr. SNS HiTek coated RN
CCI small pistol primer
Starline case
1.135" c.o.a.l.
Shot out of:
G19
92FS
DW Pointman 9
MP 2.0
Ruger PC 9 Carbine
KelTec 2000

THIS IS MY LOADING DATA>>>USE AT YOUR OWN RISK<<<

Thanks for the info and insight.
Think I'll go with CFE Pistol w/ a COL of 1.15 (1.164 minus .015) w/ loads 3.7, 3.8, 3.9, 4.0 gr.
Once fired range brass, trim length .750, Winchester SPP

Sound like a safe plan?
(This is my load plan and will ultimately be done at my own risk)

I Have run 3.5 gr of Titegroup under 147 grain berry bullets for a very reliable and softer recoil Load for IDPA for a long time. Warning if you go any less then cycling can become a problem. I have told other people that and they had cycling problem when they insisted on reducing the load. I have run that load in my M&P pro as well as my glock 27 with a 9 MM LW conversion Barrel as well as Beretta 92 without any issues whatsoever.

That sounds like a very safe plan. You may want to consult Hodgdon’s online data again and select both the 145 and 147 gr bullets. They list a 145gr Acme RN CTD that happens to have data at 1.150”. If it were me, I’d start at the middle of the CTD lead data for a plated bullet, around 4.0gr of CFEP. If you load lighter than that make sure bullets exit the barrel. You didn’t mention what the loads were for but for target/games you may want to try your faster powders. Good luck.

From "Hodgdon's 2007 Annual Manual it lists only one of your powders for 147 grain bullet Hornady XTP. It lists Titegroup with a 'STARTING LOAD OF 3.2 GRAINS" and a "MAX LOAD OF 3.6 GRAINS"

The 2016 Hodgdon's Annual Manual lists CFE Pistol for 147 grain Hornady XTP bullet with a "STARTING LOAD OF 3.7 GRAINS" and a "MAX LOAD OF 4.2 GRAINS".

where does sport pistol land on a relative burn rate chart.
the only two charts (old) i have don't list sport pistol

SportPistol is supposedly right in the mix with Unique and, another Alliant powder... BE-86. I've loaded Berrys 147's with all 3 of those and it works well enough.

3.9grn SportPistol gave me 890fps out of my 3.6" Kahr barrel, and 920fps out of a PT-92, OAL at 1.15"
Roughly equivalent, 4.8grn BE-86 gave me 870fps out of my Kahr, and 4.1grn Unique 860fps and 920fps (Kahr and Taurus, respectively.)

I know TiteGroup was mentioned, and while it's reasonable with 115 and 124grn bullets, I don't think it's a good choice with the 147grn bullet, just my .02 worth.

You can find data for SportPistol on Alliant's website.

For all the plated bullets I have used I started with cast lead data (only tried about 1,000 and I keep 250 124 9mms on the back shelf for absolute emergencies). If necessary, I have worked up to lower mid-jacketed data but I found no reason to go any farther...

I use a lot of Universal for my 124/125 and 147 gr 9mm reloading, both cast and jacketed...

The 147's have been lying around for a few years and never did anything with them.
Maybe I'll plunk some in my Beretta pistol instead and work a ladder for that.
Don't want to end up with a stuck bullet in a barrel.
Worked up loads for every other 9mm bullet that was lying around (mostly 124's) for the PC9,

I've loaded this bullet with Titegroup for my pistols with zero problems and am happy with the results. I don't, however, chrono my pistol loads.
FWIW, 3.3gr Titegroup, CCI primers 1.095 COAL

The 147's have been lying around for a few years and never did anything with them.

When I had my HiPower, I lived for 147's, so when I got my Kahrs, that's what I bought. I found, in the shorter barrels, they were not the hot setup... so mine have been setting on the shelf, too. These days, I'm trying to preserve my 124's... so I went ahead and loaded up the rest of the box... about 800 rounds. I said I'd never buy any 147's again... and then Midway had some 147grn XTP's in stock... so... well... never say never.

Most of these ate Extreme 147s but maybe some help

Love the bullet and my load is almost the same - 1.16" OAL and 4.0 gr CFE Pistol w/ CCI SPP. In my M&P Shield it gives about 800 fps, 860 fps in a Ruger SR9 , and 1050 fps in my Ruger PCC. YMMV and these loads are save in my guns and may not be in yours.
