Locally the ammo shortage seems over IMHO

We have had a steady supply of thejunk .22 ammo. The good stuff (Federal Champion bulk 525 round boxes) is still unobtanium. Until I see that on the shelves regularly I don’t consider the rush over.

I have seen 22 mag at walmart when there was no 22LR at all. It seemed to be available throughout the ammo crisis.

It's been over around here for quite some time. Neckbeards that bought up all the ammo have been selling it. I can't tell you all the .22LR, 9mm, .45ACP, .40S&W, that I have bought over the last year or so.

Gander Mountain reopened here as Gander Outdoors, and their ammo prices are so good, I don't have much motivation to go online to buy.

As for Democrats not wanting to go after ammunition, Google "ammunition tax."

Lots of 22 ammo here. But I’m not paying $22 for a brick of thunderbolt. There’s still some panick bought AR rifles on local traders in the $1000 range too.

Reloading stuff is sky high around here too. Keeps going up too. Powder is so high I can pay powder valley hazmat on 4LB. If I lived in Abilene I’d be tempted to open a shop. I used to buy local at 19-24 a Lb. not happening at 28-30.

I was in Walmart yesterday and went to the sporting goods section looking for a couple of small plastic boxes. I looked in the ammo section as I had to walk right past it to get to where the boxes are kept. The shelves were loaded with centerfire ammo and even plenty of shotgun shells. There were only a few boxes of 333 count Winchester 22 LR and six 100 count boxes of Remington golden bullets on that shelf with no price posted on either. I'm still stuck with ordering 22 LR off the net.

Walmart is famous for its low prices but infamous for the lack of supply dependability. Here in Houston Academy is a much more dependable ammo supplier with large inventory of all the popular and not so popular varieties. And the prices are as good or better than Walmart. I don’t bother going to WM anymore. I do buy online when that is the better approach, but more often now local supply works as well. Certainly in .22LR that is usually the case. The lone exception recently was the online deal at Academy that many of us took advantage of.

Tons of everything available here beginning the day after our current POTUS took his seat. Though it was improving rapidly towards the end of the other gents term. I always could find some WMR and HMR, just no LR. All the Walmarts have some ammo and the old fellows that were hoarding for re-sale/gouging are gone.

What I am seeing now id no primers, especially CCI LR primers #200.

I am a 22 ammo geek. I began collecting the ammo in the 80s after getting steady employment out of school. I have a lot of 22 and I still buy a box or a brick of CCI MM, SV, Velocitor and I like the new Quiets (Segmented especially) every time I am in a store. I never had an ammo shortage.

Perhaps Houston having over 2 million population might be a reason that ammo flows to it. I live in a country that is over three time larger than Rhode Island and contains around 65,000 souls total. Goods go to the larger markets.

I can handle the 22LR scarcity better than I could deal with your population. I get stressed when dealing with the drivers in Lubbock. Most seem to think they are the only one on the road. It's been an area joke for years that a vehicle can't be sold in Lubbock with operating turn signals.

That new Lubbock cabelas has pretty good prices. Their reloading stuff is pretty reasonable.
I was in college there when they put those short lived red Light cameras up. Before those people would just keep going through lights. Cars would stay bumper to bumper and roll on through. I’ve seen cars in a turning lane keep going until the light turned again.

Was in the local WM again today. Talked to the older gent that mans the sporting goods counter. He said they have several cases of .22 bulk in the back now and put it out to fill the shelf every day. The .22 MAG is still trickling in a 50 box or two of CCI every 10 days to two weeks apart. Bought one box and left one there. No sense to be greedy at this point.:)

I'd say mid to late 2017 around here. I've finally gotten to the point where I don't buy 22lr whenever I see it. Unfortunately, the "buy it when I see it" had me end up with 150 rounds of Aguila Interceptor (hyper velocity 40gr) that I won't shoot. Only gun I have that can handle it is my Savage Mark II, and I already have it dialed in for CCI Standard Velocity because that's what it likes

why wont other guns handle that ammo?

About 3 1/2 years ago, Gander opened their first store in this area just east of St. Louis, MO, and over the course of that "grand opening", I was able to buy multiple boxes of Winchester bulk HP ammo (222, 333, & 555 rds.) at what were the best prices and availability in this area since Columbine. About 2 months later, the nearby Walmart store had its first batch of Winchester bulk (same ammo) AND at a better price. Two years ago, Academy opened its first store, at the other end of the strip mall where the aforementioned Walmart store is the other end. Gander closed last year but thanks to them and Academy, I've got enough .22 ammo to last several years at the rate the two of us shoot it.
While Walmart HAS had more regular supplies of .22 ammo this past year than they have had in the previous 7-8 years, with that ONE exception after Gander opened, their prices have been no better that GM or Academy. o_O

They might be able to in small quantities, but I'd rather not risk it in my Marlin 795 or M&P 22 Compact since both come with warnings not to use hyper velocity. It's a 40 gr bullet buzzing along at 1470 ft/s, which for reference is 235 ft/s faster than CCI Mini Mag and 35 ft/s faster than Velocitor.

I'll probably end up trading it for some CCI at some point.
