If you blame it on the vacuum, the wife will have to believe you actually turned it on. Risky business.

Edit: Ah - just read the post that you live alone. The idea of hot glue gunning the threads you pulled up sounds like the winner, low risk and cost to try it anyway.

get a carpet scrap thats a similar color, and put it over, thats your best bet. If you cut it close, you won't be able to tell. If you cant find a match, get something shaggy. What I would do is build a stock spacer on the bottom. As far as drilling carpet, you can. the easiest way is to place some wood directly over the holes and push very hard. Second, is to run the drill in reverse until it cuts through the carpet. This does work.
Reverse to the floor boards has worked for me but I learned too, the initially cutting of wood must be gingerly or the larger chips can conspire to drag carpet threads as well.

Ha! Been there too! Learned a trick while replacing carpet in a few old project cars. Use a soldering iron to burn/melt through the carpeting. Leave a clean, cauterized type, hole in the carpet that prevents it from fraying etc when drilling.

Your...not....whaaat..uh..what are you worried about then? You know you are the King, right? Whatever you do is ok.Good, law ...it don’t matter jack,it’s yours,do whatever you want ! You could even spill a bottle of Hoppes there and no one will be able to say anything.Except you ,I mean.

Just a point for others who may need to drill through carpet, if you have handy a leather hole punch or 45/50/54 cal bullet lube cutter it will cut a nice hole in the carpet where you want to drill, before you drill. Also burning the new hole with a butane lighter will seal the edges of the new hole so the drill bit won't latch onto loose threads. Ask me how I know :)
