Been thinking of getting another AMT Hardballer 7" barrel. Had a lotta fun with one for several years and the thing was sure accurate. Resold for a hefty profit also since AMT had gone under and there were no other 7" .45s.
Had problems though. The name is appropriate. It was a finicky eater and only liked RN bullets. I finally found the perfect OAL to load hard lead RN 230 grain over 4.5 grains of Bullseye and could afford to shoot it. Very steep feed ramp on the gun.
Also there was a problem with the stainless steel pieces galling together since they used the same exact metal for slide and frame. I used a light coat of thick silicone grease which I guess helped to prevent this. And I wondered with more heavy use if I saw some wear on the lock up lugs on the slide.
I punch paper a lot and really prefer a nice round hole from SWCs, though the flat nose lead RNs are also pretty good for this. So I really prefer an auto that will feed such stuff. My present main gun is an old Smith 4506-1 which truly will feed empty cases. Have gotten kinda spoiled here.
So is there a 7" 1911 type out there that is not such a finicky eater and does not have the metal issues?
