Long Range Rifle/Scope/PRS question(s)

Installing the Pre-Fit. SAC barrel vice, Impact action wrench.

Put the barreled action in the Manners stock, leveled the rifle up using my old barrel vise, then mounted the scope.

Decided to try the ARC rings this time, I have used TPS, Badger, Steiner, the MPA mount, and now ARC rings. No complaints with any of them.
I did like these for ease of keeping the scope lever while tightening down the rings.

The rifle, Impact action, Manners PRS1T stock, ARC rings, Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 scope, Bartlein barrel by Altus, with a Little Bastard brake. I started
buying parts one at a time over a year ago. (Had the scope) 15.5 pounds, so a little light, am going to look into how to weight down the stock a bit.

Sorry you have a less than expected day VT, I'm sure you'll do better tomorrow. :)

As I told one of my squad mates today - a shooter I’ve known for years - “my performance is largely commensurate with my practice!” I’ve been way too busy with work of late - culminating in the stress of the soul-searching effort to part ways with my company last week, so my practice this season has been abysmal. Consistency doesn’t happen on accident.

I‘ve also solidified my decision that I want a Schmedium to upscale my Pint Size. I won’t carry two bags, but that ONE stage where I want a bigger bag is becoming valuable enough, mentally, to finally buy yet another bag.

Better today: 69% on Day 1, dropping 7pts each on two stages, but shot 84.7% on Day 2 - I dug hole too deep to dig out with those bad stages yesterday, but I did raise 11 places. Dropped 3 points on only one stage, the 0-2 on the rest today. Those 2 bad stages yesterday hit me hard: left me 10pts below my average on the other 18 stages, which booted me down 20 spots overall - woulda been glad for a mulligan on those two stages!!

Ridiculously competitive scores this weekend in the relatively low winds we rarely get to enjoy in KS - shooting 80% wasn’t even in the top half of shooters! The top 5 shooters missed less than 10 shots out of 20 stages, 198 rounds. Definitely one of those matches which helps guys boost their year end score, even without ranking well at all in the match itself.

ordered the new parts from Defiance to fix my Dasher. That's all that remains of the "blind tang set screw" that secures the bolt stop. Defiance is shipping me the replacement screw and spring for it.

Quicker, not faster, softer, not harder. Like a baseball swing, muscle memory, don't think about it. Simply release your hands.

It took me awhile to get faster and smoother without thinking, as in develop muscle memory working the bolt instead of thinking about it. Relaxed muscles are quicker.

Don't "muscle" it. :)

as I was kidding with some of my marine buddies- 0311 is the serial number on the rifle...
even though I was a 12B...there's some ironic humor in there

I'm looking at the various Atlas bipods. Do you prefer the pan or no-pan models? My Harris bipods don't pan so that's what I'm used to. Is pan-ability worth considering? In the short term, I'll probably just buy an Area 419 Harris ARCA clamp kit.

Mine are pan, don’t use it much.

I have the Area 419 arca clamp for the Atlas no clamp bipods, and the MPA clamp. For my old fingers/hands the MPA is much easier to clamp/unclamp. It’s fine thread with better leverage.

Alright guys Im getting all my accessories together for the 308. Hopefully it will be done in the next month or so. Looking at bubble levels. Scope mounted vs rail mounted?

My AI has a Spuhr mount which has the level built in and it works well. Is there a benefit of one vs the other or is it more personal preference?

I can’t see the Spuhr level on my rifles when I’m in the scope (or integral rail bubbles). I use Vortex bubble levels mounted on the tube, forward of the adjustment body, such my open left eye can see the bubble while my right eye is in the scope. Rail mounted levels sticking out to the side are fine also, if you’re not using a data card, otherwise, I need that spatial real estate for my card.

I agree the integral bubble level in the Spuhr isnt ideal. If I was competing with my AI, I would probably get a different level.

I hadn't thought about range cards. That's a good reason to have it scope mounted.

It’s not something I think offers me any extra points at any matches, but it adds confidence and comfort for me - I call it my HUD, I have range card for elevation and wind holds, my level, relatively open view down the side of the barrel to align with targets, my windage (Kahles left side wind), elevation, parallax (Kahles parallax on top around the elevation turret), and my magnification throw lever all visible in my left eye, all without breaking my cheekweld or breaking my right eye alignment in my scope.

Only way it could get any better is if I’d finally convert to right bolt, left port, so I could see into my port and into my chamber from behind glass...

I have fully prepped some Alpha Dasher test cases, now twice fired, including annealing. Now all I have to do is prime them, charge them, and seat bullets. I removed the firing pin assembly and ejector from the Impact bolt and found the lands, so I know where to seat the Berger 105 Hybrids now.

I'm going to load one round each with 32.4, 32.5, 32.6, 32.7, 32.8, 32.9 & 33.0 Grs RL-15.5 and Berger 105 Hybrids. I hope to shoot them after work tomorrow.

Wondering what that CBTO will be?
I ended up at 1.776 with the blocked mags with Alpha Brass and 105 Hybrids

1.770 with my Sinclair comparator. It's farther to the lands on this barrel than my other one from Stuteville Precision. OAL of 2.458 +/-
That's .010 off the lands.

They are all primed and loaded, hope to shoot them tomorrow. Paul at Alliant fixed me up with the RL-15.5 after seeing me posting good results here with RL-15.

RL-15.5 is a little bulkier than 15, loads will be 100% load density, even slightly compressed. Hand start a bullet in the charged case, tap, tap, tap the base of the round on the deck of the arbor press, then seat, no slight crunch that way. Not that it would hurt anything.

Can't wait to see velocities, too bad it won't be hotter tomorrow.
