Long Term Gun Storage Success Story

I got 4 shotguns in the safe already... tossing the JIC under some dirt would be a "perfectly solid and sensible shotgun purchase" for its intended purpose.

yes--but my bet is that the target market (and most buyers of that package) are *NOT* anywhere near your level of knowledge and experience---

I imagine them as (often) non-gunners who will buy the thing and shove it in a closet and only interact with it when they really need it. Think of the guy (or gal) with the flat tire you see reading the jacking instructions on the spare tire cover on the roadside; now imagine the same person reading the manual for the 500 s/he just dumped out of the tube when already in a crisis situation.

For what it's worth, I purchased a factory synthetic-stocked 500a riot gun in 1990 and didn't bother actually firing it for the first 12 years I owned it---so yeh, in a sense I did the same thing in except for the tubing and burial. Now I've got (maybe) 300 shells through it.

What if he had forgotten where it was buried or something, be a waste of money and gun i guess he marked some places but still

Well... back in the younger days, I bought a M500 Persuader pistol gripped shotgun and NEVER fired it and it got stolen and later recovered and the police destroyed it without calling me.

So the moral of the story is, shoot the cr4p out of your guns first so at least you got to use it.

What percentage of guns are unpapered, 40 years after the creation of the 4473? I don't know, but I do know that anyone under 58 years of age has most or all of their guns on paper.

I would say 90 percent of mine are not on paper. I have only bought 2 firearms. One was later traded for another arm in that same caliber. Everything else was either gifted to me or inherited. My collection isn't big, but it does have a nice or hard to find arm in there or two (Garand and a bolt action .30-30).

Wow! This gives a whole new meaning to treasure hunting; I am going to buy a good metal detector.
