The longest rage have you ever shot with a rifle (please no cannons or howitzers!!! :D...let's say max 50 BMG) nd you were still able to hit yoru target.

Please mention distance, rifle and caliber.

Live target...
1,019 yards...shot a coyote with a home built 308 (Rem 700 action, 22 inch Shilen barrel)

Paper target...
1,287 yards...300 Win Mag home built rifle (Rem 700 action, 24 inch Shilen barrel)

Have only been out to 1000 meters. It was very very interesting.

405 yards with a .30-06 Remington 700 SPS w/ Leupold VX-I 3-9 scope (zeroed at 100 yrds)

Just a steel plate, took 3 tries to get with wind and adjusting for my trajectory.

Man was that satisfying.

Hmmm.....

Killed several deer in the 250-300 yard range.

When I was 14-15 years old, took a couple pop shots at deer within the 450-600 yard range. Managed to hit them, but didn't find them until 2 days later after the coyotes had taken their share of the kill. Ended up being a gut shot.

Since then, I have taken my time and chose my shots wisely. I hardly ever like to shoot a deer over 150 yards. But, given the circumstances, I am know familiar with ballistics to make a good shot at those ranges.

The closer they are, the shorter walk you'll have to them.

A little over 400 meters with a M16A4 DMR using an Acog and 77grn OTM.

500 meters using standard M16A4s with irons.

800+ meters with a M240 using irons. But then again thats using bursts. Kinda cheating LOL.

I used to shoot Hunter Siloutte course with my Savage 99A cal.308, K3 Weaver scope, rams at 500 meters. The year I was doing that I shot a coues deer at what I thought was 500 yards, steep downhill angle. Later we measured it at 625 yards line of sight. My hold on the rams and deer was top of the curl/horns and back edge of the front leg.(200 yard zero)

Well......about 5 miles, the time i blotched a shot.:D Really, slightly less than 300yd. Paper targets. .223 remington in a POF AR-15.

Longest shots

Crow at 410 yds measured...Remington 700 VS in .22-250 Ackley Improved 4.5X14 Leupold.

Squirrel at 375 yds with Remington 700 VS Shilen Bbl in .17 Mack IV 3.5X10 Leupold

Crow at 200 yds with Marlin 15YN Youth Model .22 LR Eley Tenex Tasco 4X

Crow at 175 Yds Off Hand shot with Ruger 6 7/8" Bbl Goverment .22 LR. Iron Sights.

Shot alot and missed alot more...but these were all witnessed by one or more persons and measured with either a wheel or 100 yd tape.

Our rule of thumb is...if you can't walk over and pick it up...then it was a miss.

My Dad used to say that he would shoot them so far away he had to put salt on the bullets so the meat wouldn't ruin before he could walk to them....(-;

H&K91 .308 at 650 Yards -- Action Match -- Steel IPSC target -- no optics -- when the front sight hid the target , I squeezed the trigger. Got 18 out of 20 hits.

Three days ago! 650 yrds (Bowling Pin) with my Savage 10FP .308 20" barrell and a Bushnell 4200 scope. Probably an easy shot for most with a tool like that, but it sure boosted this 40 year old's moral!

Years ago...400 yards..tin sign 4" by 4" with my 7Mag. I have not shot at that type of distance since.

I am going to be going out in a coupe of weeks to shoot out to at least 500 yards to see if I can hit anything at that distance. There is NO DOUBT that the rifles I will be taking with me can make the shot...a 300Mag and the 7Mag.

I will also be taking my 6.5X55 Swede and my Ruger 280 to try out to 500 yards. I am not real sure how there two will perform at this distance though.

I will also be taking my CZ 22-250 to see what I can do with it. It has a Zeiss Conquest on it that has the elevation and windage marks on the reticle. The farthest I have shot this one so far was at about 225 yards and it was shooting 3 inch 10 shot groups in pretty high wind. Not only that but I actually shot two different loads because I was out of the first one...and they shot about an inch different. I tried to make up for it with my aim point but do not think that I was successful doing so considering the group.

Firearms?
98 Mauser 7x57AI Custom- paper at 1000.
98 Mauser 243Win- yote at 650 (luck)
Howa 1500 .223Rem- Ground hog at 600
AR-15 .223Rem- Jackrabbit running at 400 (I won't mention the reloads LOL)
Marlin 880SQ .22LR- playing card at 200/ birds at 150
Buckmark rifle .22LR- Gophers at 125
Marlin 917(I think that was the the #) 17HMR- squirrel at 225
Kimber 1911- yote at 60/ 2liters at 100 (more luck)
That about covers it. I love to shoot! One thing is that you never mentioned having to be able to repeat these. Some I could, others were chance, bravado, and luck.

Using optics on a non-living target it would have to be 1200 yards or so with an AR-50 .50 BMG topped with an 8-32x56 Nightforce sending 750 gr Barnes LRS downrange at about 2700 fps. I had one of those bright plastic sleds standing about 48 inches tall tied to a small tree down a powerline road. The optic was newly mounted and not sighted in at any particular range and I didn't have a rangefinder that went out that far, so I used the MOA-based stadia lines to compute range at about 1200 yards or a little farther. It took about 6 rounds of firing, seeing the hit, adjusting, and firing before I was able to get on target but after that I put three in a row on the target with little difficulty.

With iron sights, it would be the M240 and M2 out to about 1000 yards, if you want to count that. We were shooting old deuce and a halves and 55 gallons drums, which was fun, but not really all that difficult, esp with the M240. I did better with it than with the M2. Other than that, I have shot and hit out to 600 yards with the factory irons on my M1A and qualified 'expert' out to 500 yards with the irons on an M16A2.

On a living target, I've hit out to about 300 yards with my Leupold equipped M700 7mm Rem Mag.

800 yards with a 50 bmg, the rifle belongs to a good friend of mine. We were just shooting regular silhouette targets.

1000 yard silhouette with my Sendero in 300 WM.

I've been out to 225 yards with my Vaquero using cowboy loads and open signts. We had 8" targets. Got hits in the first cylinder. after that, it was easy.
Since these were low power cowboy loads, we probably could have sent someone down there to catch 'em and throw them back.

Just 200 yards for me using my Winchester 94 and .44 Magnum loads.

Each year my club holds a fun shoot and one of the targets is bucket shaped and 9” square (called the Quigley shoot).

I hit it 6 out of 10 times using iron sights. Not as impressive as some of the posts here but really good for me.

Hunting: 325 yards with a 358 Norma Mag. Bull Moose.
Other Target: 1,100 meters with a Barrett and M2 HB
Rifle Match: 600 yards M-21
Pistol: 100 yards with a Sig P-220 using Golden Saber dept. issue ammo.

The most impossible shot I ever saw was by SSgt John Swearingin at 500 meters.
He actually hit a road grader cab with a Hail-Mary shot using a 66mm LAW rocket, in 1991..
He said "Watch this!", gave it about 45 degrees of elevation and the darn thing actually came down right on top of the cab a few seconds later.

For the record we used to shoot our 90MM tank guns(old school) no electronics for zero at 1500 yd. Then fire one round at a 12" bullseye for record. anything out of the black was a miss. I once hit the top of a 2x4 at 3500 yds using a 10x scope. The tracer came down directly on top of the post. When the smoke cleared the post was gone. The normal range of the 90MM tank gun was 5,000 yd.:neener:

By the Way, I now wear two hearing aids and can't hear s---.
