Longest distance did you ever shot regardless of caliber??

So the longest shot I ever tried was about 93,000,000 miles.

The moon is orbiting at about 250,000 miles. This distance you stated is, as noted above, to the Sun or about eight light minutes.

I can assure you that you didn't get any hits.

I haven't done a lot of long-range shooting, nothing over 200 yards really. I did hang a man-sized target out at about 350 yards just to see if i could get a .22LR out there with my Marlin 39. About 30 shots later, I had 2 hits on the target. lol. At that distance with a .22, you have to aim about 15-20 feet high. Seriously. I have made many 125 yard shots with pistols at 10-inch steel plates, offhand with open sights, but then, I have young eyes. I just bought a new .17HMR target rifle with 16x scope, so I am hoping to explore its 200-yard capabilities before the crops get planted.

.50 cal Browning, a mile or so shooting at an iceburg from a Coast Guard ice breaker. I hit it. You could see the big shards falling off of it.

My longest shot, about 300 feet. Lately, a maximum of 200 feet.

Longest shot at a cottonmouth snake which was poised to climb a steep riverbank: about 80 feet.
Missed and he was gone in a split-second.
Also missed one which swam towards bullet impacts (on an insurgent grapefruit) at 50 feet.

Standing by for civilization's imminent melt-down: Minis, SKS, MN and the .22.

"ya take all the fun out of it when i can't include artillery,
.45/70 marlin, 145 yds iron sight, 350 gr"

Some might argue that the .45/70 is an artillery piece.....!

Longest shot for me was at 800yds using my AR15 service rifle. I ran out of elevation on the rear sight.

I think I hold the National Record for the shot fired the furthest north from the shore of Lake Erie.

I think that I might qualify for that honor too... I did that once a couple years ago shooting in the President's 100 match on Viale range. I was on my 4th round in the offhand string and I couldn't get the rifle to settle. I was fidgeting around with my position with my finger on the trigger and muzzle pointed up in the air. BANG!... that bullet took off toward Canada at 2700fps.

US Coast Guard , Cape May Training Center , N.J. 1968. You had too qualify at 200yds too 500yds. We used the M1 Garand ... If I recall , the x was 10in in dia. at 500yds.

It struck me as funny

Longest distance did you ever shot regardless of caliber??

The longest rage have you ever shot with a rifle (please no cannons or howitzers!!! ...let's say max 50 BMG) nd you were still able to hit your target.

Please mention ... caliber.

The OP places no restrictions to caliber in the title then goes on to restrict by weapon type and specifically by caliber. Funny.

Mine... not that impressive.

Target... The furthest point that my projectile would hit the ground
Caliber... .17
Hold... 45° angle upwards
Success... Yep, I hit bullseye on the furthest point that my projectile would hit the ground
Distance... Who the heck knows. Not that far at all.

;)

in the marine corp , 500 meters with an M16A2 , 1000 meters with 240G on a tripod with T n E at a giant sandbag bunker, pretty hard to miss, and my long shot hunting 250 yrds on a cow elk in northern AZ

The longest shot I made on an animal was a Bull Moose at 384 Yards. I used my Remington 760 chambered in .308 Win

The longest on a target (6" x 6") was at a distance of 600 yards. I was using a Browning BAR chambered in 300 Win Mag.

A bit over 3500 meters, with a 105mm RIFLED cannon - mounted to an M60A3 tank. Missed the Hind-D, but got suppression on the target and 'saved' about a platoon of tanks. Not bad for training ammo.

A touch over 1,000 yards with an M-14, at Eglin AFB, Florida's Range 52. Scored three "clang" hits on the tail fin of an unexploded thousand-pound bomb. Handed the rifle over to another guy who hit the tail fuse with his first shot and left "barking dogs" woofing overhead as we pressed further into the dirt...

The OP places no restrictions to caliber in the title then goes on to restrict by weapon type and specifically by caliber. Funny.

That's right I did not put restriction on caliber, still I did ask people to mention it....ask to specify the caliber is not a restriction on caliber...;)

Longest Shot : 100 yards

Shot made with:
Savage 7mm Rem Mag [3x9x40 Simmons Scope]
Stevens Savage 410 Model 9478
J. Stevens Model 83 22sl/lr
Glock 17 9mm

You have no idea how depressing it is to live in West Virginia.
Finding a place over 300 yards is quite depressing.

If any fellow 'eers read this and are local to Charleston hit me up. I'd love to break in my 7mm. =[

500 yards qualifying in the United States Marine Corps. I left the Marines with a 5th Award Expert Pistol and 4th Award Expert Rifle. Man it was good to have young eyes.

On paper 600yards it was using a Ruger M77 .270 shooting factory 130gr winchester pp. Best 5 shot group was 7in Mostly shot in the 9 to 11 in range.

Longest shot on a live animal, .... don't know I have several 360+yards on a trotting deer (lased the range). Killed a red fox with one of chickens in its mouth running at 160 long steps using my little .308 BLR. Killed a standing coyote hill top to hill top (lased at 450+yards) with the same .270 above. Killed a crow at a bit over 300 with an old Remmy 700 30-06. A few others that I have made that were as long or longer but didn't have laser and the land didn't lend itself to stepping it off. (Especially on coyotes, and the like!)

I will never forget my longest shot (to date).............
I was visiting my college girl friend at her parents house in west virginia, and her dad wanted to out shooting. She and her mom looked worried but I said Yeah lets go. He had a beautiful old winchester in 30-06 with a scope and 4 one gallion milk jugs. We went to 'the range'; which was a coal slurry lake (he was a coal miner). It was about 300 yards across to the milk jugs and i was told to lean across the pickup and shoot one. After he helped me find them in the scope! I hit 3 with 4 shots ! (Thankyou Jesus!)
I will never again be that nervous behind the stock of a gun!
If your from the Madison WV area and this sounds familiar PM me (circa 1992)

not my longest, but i just shot this one this evening about 10min after sunset or so, and took about 10 more minutes to shoot the bottom six group, the first five were real good, that bottom left one, #6, wasnt a flier, just me getting really cold and starting to shiver(25F in a tshirt)....anyhow about 330 yds......just looked at some old surveyors maps and it is actually 341.4yds where i shot at today, and according to the same maps my longest shot was at 500.66yds, but i hit a target only 9 times bigger that far out too!.

still waiting on upload sorry...

500 yds. with various 222 mags. A crow at 300 yds. with a Winchester model 70 in 243 cal. Long ago I won bets shooting at a quart oil can at 100 yds with my Browning Challenger. So many hits per clip. Dont remember how many hits, but won lots of bets.

heres the pic finally...
