I go to a local gun show that comes to town a few times a year. There is a dealer there that has been trying to sell a Chinese SKS with "extras" since I was about 14-15 (I'm in my early 30's) The gun costs $1000, it appears to be a standard Chinese SKS, not a bringback. Not sure what the extras are suppose to be.

I once bought a J.C. Higgins 20 ga bolt action in like 2002 that it had been sitting on the shelf for so long at the gunshop the tag had yellowed, I think it had been on the shelf about 5 years.

The same shop had a MAS 36/51 in this time frame on sale for $100, it didn't sell at $100 for a year or two. I had them call the seller and I offered $65, I was told he said "Hell no". It eventually sold,probably when inflation and the importation of these guns seemed to dry up and made the gun a better deal.

A local gunshop chain has had a Luger in a box missing pieces and reblued I think w/o grips with an asking price of $1500, consignor has not lowered price. Gun has been there since early 2007. This same shop has recently taken in a consignment Beretta 950bs .25acp at $400. Sounds like BS to me:)
 
If you frequent Gunbroker you see the same guns auctioned over and over. The sellers usually have some ridiculous secret reserve price that never is reached. Since it is so easy to just start a new auction, they are hoping that eventually some person with more money than sense will come along and pay their asking price.
 
There's a Remmie 22-250 I've seen at the gunshows for about 5 years now. I noticed the guy RAISED the price on it about 3 years ago.
 
A few years ago, I was watching Gunbroker to see what Stevens #10 Target Pistols were worth... I had one, and was trying to figure out if it was worth having the barrel relined. I saw a few, and while the price wasn't particularly high, they never sold. I watched 2 or 3 keep getting relisted. I finally went ahead and had my barrel relined, and as it turned out, I was really happy with the thing! I wrote up a report on the project and posted it in the USENET group rec.guns. Shortly after that, all the Stevens #10's disappeared off Gunbroker. :) I sort of figured a few sellers owed me a cut...
There may well be more listed by now.

One of the local pawn shops has a double barrel Browning .12 gauge shotgun that has been on the shelf for nearly 3 yrs. $1600 firm.
 
There is still an older Glock 17 at a pawn shop for sale for $400 that the guy is not willing to deal one bit on. Has been there for over 5 years.
 
I was at a gun shop a while ago and heard this:

Manager: What are we going to do with this gun?

Employee: It was at $350 and sat there for months.

Manager: Well let's put it at $375 and see what happens.
 
There's a gun store in Raleigh, NC that has a brand-new Steyr AUG for sale. I think they've had it since before the '94 AWB. They want something like $4,000, which is on the high side, but the biggest obstacle is that it's a general sporting-goods store whose clientele is mainly elderly gentlemen interested in break-open shotguns and bolt rifles. I doubt it will be sold before the store closes.
 
There's a 20 gauge semi-auto with an unusual red dot sight on it which I've been seeing at gun shows for years (I think with different vendors). I remember it because of the unusual sight for a shotgun. Makes me think there's probably many other guns that make the rounds for years. Doesn't surprise me at all, given the laughable prices I saw at the gun show this weekend.
 
Sig P225 priced at exactly $900, sitting in a display case for about five-six years.

It had night sights. NIGHT SIGHTS, man! Totally worth a markup of 500 bucks.
 
I visit area pawnshops every once in a while to see if they do have any bargains. Occassionally I'll find something, but for every bargain there are twenty VERY overpriced guns.

Me: "How much for the Ruger 10/22 (used)?"
Pawn Guy: "$275"
Me: "Are you sure? I can get one NIB for $180 @ Academy or Wal Mart"
Pawn Guy: "Naw, I got more than that in it...."

Yesterday I went to a massive flea market an hour or so from Dallas. Found a 85% condition 1972 Browning Hi Power with a dinged front sight for $900. Yup, $900. I asked "what's the best you can do on the HP?" "$850...they're rare." Right.

It is interesting what some people really think a particular gun is worth.
 
I asked about a pistol that had been in the display case at my local purveyor of fine firearms for a couple of years. The tag was marked as a consignment, and the firm asking price. I made an offer on the pistol that I thought was realistic (the price listed was at least $200 high), the shop owner called the consignor to see if he would accept the price, and got his sister, who was packing the fellows personal effects (he'd had a fatal heart attack three days prior, died in his sleep). The shop sold me the pistol for what I offered, and I made a donation to the local charity listed in his obituary. Karma, don't you know.
 
This guy has been selling this .300 Acera (yes I have a special interest) for a few years now.

My NIB .300 Acera, Zeiss Scope, installed a custom muzzle break, extra mags, and a bunch of other accessories did not cost me as much as his reserve. Value of that gun, about $500, but he has a reserve at $1,049.

I have been watching it, even sent him an offer a couple of years ago.

There is a shop up in NW Washington, They have had a BM-59 (Semi auto of course) on there shelf for at least 11 years. Keep in mind this is my holy grail of rifles. Back in 1998, the price tag read $1900 and I was tempted. I was there last year and the price has been increased by at least 25% and the rifle is still there.

Yeah right. He's got more than a dollar eighty into it, but not much. Cracks me up.... I don't bother to ask all the guys at the gun shows selling used Marlin 336s for $450 what they are thinking, when new ones are under $350 at Walmart. Life's too short to deal with idgits and rip off artists. Oh get this - ol' boy this weekend at the gun show had an AK pistol for $1,600 like it's something special. Couple tables down they're $469.
 
It isn't always the price. I see a pawnshop on Gunbroker that has been trying to sell a Colt Peacekeeper just like mine for months. They want $500 for it, and that's a fair price for the excellent condition it is in. But, the guns were only made for a couple of years, they are really ugly as they were blued but not polished and it's rare for anybody to know what they are. If I didn't really need the little S&W I have on layaway, I'd grab it. I've had my Peacekeeper for about 23 years now---very concealable, very accurate and comfortable to shoot.

I know another pawnshop that has a really nifty little S&W 10-5/38 spcl. The gun has been refinished, the action polished, T-grips put on---but it's not a '+P' rated gun and I guess that's why it hasn't sold.

There was a dealer at the local gunshows who was attempting to sell a Delta Elite Stainless for $1000, used, with one mag.

For five years.

Another dealer was trying to sell a rusted Sig P228 mag for $120. I first asked him about it in late 2001, and was told to leave his table when I asked for the price without the bar of platinum that must have been included (I had just bought two in very good condition for $35 a piece from a dealer two tables over). After the ban sunset, I asked him again--still $120. As of January 2008, it was still in the display.
 
A $1000 Colt Delta Elite ss and a $400 used Glock 17 would sell in my area. Regional differences can be interesting.
