Longest you've waited to get a gun back?

Wow, and I thought the ATF NFA branch was slow. That definitely sucks.
Sacramento gunsmith. Trigger job, modify the trigger guard, and fit a bull barrel. 15 (fifteen) months. Never again. The wait was definitely NOT worth the "quality" of his work. He hacked it up so badly, I gave the gun to a friend. Probably got $2400 into it, but it breaks my heart to look at that butcher's job.
The most annoying thing about the entire episode may be that he "delivered" it 5 times in those 15 months, the first delivery 10 months after contracting the job. All the rest of the 'deliveries' were for comebacks--FTF's, FTRB; he finally gave up on his setup and reamed out the slide, negating the use of the original barrel. I wouldn't use Bruce Gray again on a bet.

Bout six months for a bead-blast. Ironicly, havign a dovetail cut for a front night sight and reblasting the silde only took a week.

I've had a Martini being rebarreled by one of my 'smiths for going on 6(?) years now. I told him I wasn't in any hurry for it... and he took me at my word.
I took my Springfield .22 bolt action and my venerable SKS to a "gunsmith" in San antonio
The .22 needed a rear sight and the safety on the SKS needed mending.
I told the gunsmith that money was no object just fix it.
6 months go by, 12 months, 18.
Finally I go talk to the gunsmith and he tells me that the springfield was too old to find a dovetail rear sight and the SKS could not be fixed because it was Chinese and parts were just not available.
So I thanked him and took it to Dons guns where the smith slapped a new rear sight on the .22 and charged me $6 (took 3 min) then I ordered a new trigger-group for the SKS from AIM for $39.95 and it worked like a charm.
If the guy just didn't want to work on it he should have told me.
The same smith moved to another shop where I ran into him again with my
Ranch rifle that needed a new barrel. He told me that ruger doesn't sell barrels and it would be impossible to fix for under $1500
I immediately went home found a place that would install a new Ruger barrel for $100.
If anyone wants to know what shops to avoid in San Antonio feel free to PM me.

I waited eighteen months for a custom High Standard barrel from Lou Lombardi, then pulled the plug on the deal and demanded a refund.
I ordered a similar barrel from the good folks at http://www.volquartsen.com for half Lombardi's price, and received it in three weeks. It's one of the two or three best barrels I've ever shot.

If I remember correctly, it took about 14 months to get a Master Gunsmiths built me a .38 Super Auto match gun from parts (frame, slide, barrel, all internal parts and whatever) that I actually acquired beforehand and shipped to him. When I saw his bill my eyes almost popped out of my head. But, I also saw the beautiful gun and I calmed down a little. Now, I am glad I did it but I wouldn't do it again.

There are also different reasons for delays... His he (or she) a top smith that just has a long wait? Or is their other job making them run behind?
EGW does excellent work and how they used to work was, you'd send in a deposit, you're name went on a list, then when you were a couple weeks from being on top of the list, you sent your gun in... Works great for me... That's how I'd try to do it if I was a smith. I think that may be how Ned Christiansen does it as well on smaller jobs.
To answer your question, I think a smith had my gun for two months or so... Work was minimal but I was quite pleased.
