My wife and I had some overtime pay from the holidays burning a hole in our pockets and have been looking for a good cheap pistol for plinking purposes. We tried several different shops around town and happened to find two of these beauties today.

Introducing my new Ruger SR22!

Well, needless to say, we each bought one from the two different stores that happened to have one. We are super satisfied to have found these at a reasonable price.

The box with most of its contents displayed.

The gun came with:
  • two magazines,
  • two thumb extension floor plates for the magazines,
  • a black canvas gun pouch with a red Ruger Eagle,
  • the manual, spent casing,
  • and of course my second favorite thing that I get with every Ruger gun box: The Padlock! (I know it is supposed to be a "gun lock" but I never use them for that).

We have not had a chance to make it to the range yet due to both of us being exhausted after work. We are planning on making a range trip early next week and give them a thorough workout. I will post a follow up thread about its performance.

P.S. I apologize for the dark pictures, I didn't want to go to my desk to take the pictures and the living room was a little dim.

A local man just bought one and will probably bring it out my place tomorrow to shoot it.
If it does as good as I expect I'll be getting one.

I picked mine up last week and have close to 1000 rounds through so far. Its a very sweet shooter. Today I was plinking a 6 inch steel disk at 25 yards hitting it maybe 80% of the time. For me thats pretty good.

The only issue I've had so far I think is magazine related. Once in a while (like maybe once every 200 rounds) the slide will fail to strip the next round in the magazine. When this happens I can see that the round looks almost crooked in the mag. I may be dropping rounds in crooked from time to time. Not a huge deal but something I've noticed.

Anyway, you'll enjoy the guns a lot. Easy to shoot. Easy to clean. A whole lot of easy on the wallet fun.

excellent glad to hear that you are enjoying yours, We are looking forward to shooting ours in a few days!

These guns seems well built and rugged and are very easy to break down to clean.

Haha I am always excited about the padlock too! I find uses for them in all sorts of places, but never on a gun.

yeah, we had a lot of holiday overtime or we would not have been able to afford it ourselves. we spent almost all of our extra but I believe it was well worth it for two of these beauties.

Range Report!

Well, My wife and I finally made it to the range this afternoon. The SR22s functioned very nicely; I just wish, however, that the same could be said about the cheap ammo that we took with us.

We had quite a few FTL because the ammo was not powerful enough to push the slide back far enough to strip the next round from the magazine. We had a few other FTE problems but we are completely sure that those issues were because the cheap Winchester Ammo (regular Winchester bulk not Super X) was so irregular and had so many "light" rounds.

The guns themselves were very accurate and were very easy and fun to shoot. They pointed well and the triggers were decent. I ended up, after getting used to the feel of the trigger, shooting a half dollar or larger size hole just beside the bulls-eye.Even shooting rapid fire I could keep all the rounds within the 9 ring without any real issues.

I think that Ruger did a great job on these pistols!

I am also going to go post this in a new thread for those that may be interested that are not following this thread.

I didn't mind it. To each their own though. I had fun with it and it shot well for me. Maybe someone will make a better custom trigger group for you. I see this pistol being very popular.

Mind if I ask what kind of price everyone is getting the SR22 for? I'd like to have some sort of reference to go by.

OK, I figured that'd be about the ball park. I called my semi LGS to alert him to my need for one (again checking on any signs of the SR1911). I don't need to fondle one to know I want that one. I think the single/double action is a pretty cool feature.
