Looking at 700 ADL

I'm almost new to rifles.
I have a Winchester '94 in .30-30 and enjoy it very much, but want something for target shooting, with ambitions of deerhunting use and maybe even next years Pa coyote hunt. I also reload for my rifle and pistols.
I found a Remington ADL 700 in .243 for $365.
Any comments on the rifle/caliber? How about the price? Any scope suggestions?

The ADL's not made anymore. Finding one in .243, new in box is a rarity. Buy it right now!

Really? It's been on the dealers shelf for a while, the price tag is grunged up. It has a synthetic stock, and feels much better in my hands than the Savage 111(?) next to it. The controls come more naturally to my hands, and it just feels right. How about optics -- any suggestions?

The ADL is a good rifle, not a "great" rifle. It will do what you're asking of it admirably. You mention a scope. It seems there are those that seem to not like the iron sights, and the alternatives seem to be even less popular.

Have you looked at any other rifles?

The sky's the limit on optics; at the price of that ADL, you'll probably spend as much or nearly as much on a scope, rings and mount as you're paying for the rifle. I would buy the rifle and I don't even need one.

If you want the ability to hunt deer and do some varminting as well, you should probably go with a 4.5-14 or 16 power scope. You might consider the Nikon Monarch, Bushnell Elite series (either 3200 or 4200); or, if you have a litle more $$, go with a Leupold.

The trigger will need adjusting, and that's something that you can learn to do in just a few minutes.

Remington 700 ADL

The remington 700 is one of the most accurate rifles you can buy. Most of the ones I have seen have user adjustable triggers(if you know what you are doing) and excellent barrels. Never saw one not shoot goodgroups after a through cleaning.

I just Bought a Remington ADL Today

I bought a 30/06 in stainless steal. It has a facory camo stock. I put a Burris 3-9x will Millet rings. Here's where you will smile. I paid $499 + tax +scope+rings and I am happy. I haven't fired it yer but before I bought it I did quite a bit of research. I think it will do the job. Good luck

I have a Remington 700 ADL in 30-06 and it's a fine rifle. Not sniper accurate but then, neither am I. But the rifle is way more accurate than anything I'll ever need it for. All in all, a great deal and it's a lifetime keeper.

The price you quoted is excellent; it'll only go up from there. Burris makes a good scope, but I'd recommend anything from Leupold (that's what's on mine).

If I saw one in .243, I'd jump on it. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to see if we can work it out.
He's got a nice used 50mm Nikon scope (I forget the exact magnification, but greater than 3x9) that might work fine. He's asking $100, and it's real clean.

The 700 ADL has been discontinued and replaced by the SPS line. Rather than speculating and boosting prices out of the roof(*cough* Winchester), most dealers, and even Gander Mtn is selling them for $319.00 in any caliber chambered in that model.
