I found the DeSantis E-GAT Slide holster to be very capable in comfortably holding the gun snug by my side while giving doing a great job in providing concealment.

I have used a Simply Rugged pancake, a Bladetech with paddle, and most recently a Stealth Gear appendix holster. All work well, but a G23 still disappears under a shirt more easily for me. That doesn't stop me carrying the P229.

I took the plunge and put it on layaway. Has a little wear on the rail from a light and the right grip has a couple of light marks that look familiar. I used to get them from hitting the steering wheel getting out of the patrol car in a hurry. Comes with 3 mags though and it is clean inside. Looks to be carried but not shot a lot. Has night sights, but couldn't get it in the dark to see if they still work. Overall I think it's a good investment and will enjoy it. Great replies and insights from all you folks to help me decide.

Glad to have helped (or maybe enabled?), your decision to get the P229! Love mine and have always found SIGs to be well designed and built pistols (starting with a P226, a Browning BDA a.k.a. P220, and a P228).

Yeah, my wife has threatened to turn me into G.A.A. (Gun Addict Anonymous)

Hello, my name is Terry and I'm a Gun Addict.
(Group) Hello Terry.....

My wife is well past that stage. She's more into rolling her eyes and saying: "What do you need another gun for? Don't you already have one of those?". I could easily point out the same thing with her, substituting "purses" for "guns", but in the interest of domestic tranquility I never do.

If you decide to do that, post the video. What happens next should be interesting.

Despite have just bought my first handgun (CZ 75 PO1) > Makarov chambering, I rented a Sig 229 in 9mm.

Somewhat heavier DA trigger, (than the PO1) but Notice-very Smooth trigger. I really like the gun: compact/concealable, at least 12 rds. or so, has the decocker, and is a result of superb engineering.
I would not hesitate to buy a 229 in 9mm if the price were steeply discounted on a used gun.
