Updated list and new criteria

Thanks! Thanks for the great inputs so far. And now, a slight apology. I'm changing the criteria slightly which directly affects the list, or at least changes it. But, since it's my quest, I don't feel too bad.;) I'm just adjusting slightly. I still want a .22 with scope. I still prefer wood. I still plan to use it primarily for a range toy to devlop/keep habits going that will translate over to my center fire toys. Since looking around more I really am getting more impressed with the Marlin 925. It's a bolt, I know, and that's the change.
So, the newest list:
Marlin 925
Marlin 60

Any opinions out there on the 925? Do I need to change the title of the original post? Should I start a new one?

I bought a Ruger 10/22 new in 1969. It has a pretty walnut stock. You don't find those at Walmart nowadays.

It shot fine for about 20 years, thousands of rounds. Then it started "stove-pipe" jamming once or twice per magazine. No amount of cleaning helped. A local gunsmith messed with it and made it worse so I sent it back to Ruger. They wrote back and said it needed various things, plus a new receiver, which would involve a serial number change. They said they would repair it for free, and they did. It has run perfectly ever since. I mostly shoot the Federal ammo that you can buy at Walmart for about $10/550 rounds. I have a simple Cabela's 4x .22scope on it.

Accuracy? On paper I don't know how it would compare with all the other .22's. But my best day ever of hunting with a .22 rifle happened some years ago. I took the 10/22 and one magazine (10 rounds) out one morning. I came back with 5 squirrels and 2 cottontails. All the squirrels were head shots. The cottontails got it thru the ribs. There were 3 rounds left in the rifle. :)

Funny you should bring that up....

Ive got a 25n (same as the 925 but a few years older), and its one great rifle. Its man sized, balances well, and just feels right. Ive got it bedded, got the trigger adjusted, and put a cheapie tasco scope on it. Its getting .75 inch groups at 50, even better with Wolf MT.
Its not as fun to plink with, but as time goes by I love it more and more. It would be my first choice in a hunting rifle.
Since its more accurate than the 60, you will get more out of it when practicing at the range.
