I have searched and searched, but cannot find any 44mag data for these powders.

All I have laying around is Winchester 231 and Accurate 1680

I will be loading a 240gr JHP.

Anyone know, or have a link or something, let me know.

Thanks

Hmmm......

W231 can give you a plinker load. I'm not sure AA 1680 will work at all. It should be too slow.

Get some AA# 9, or W296, or H110 for full power .44 mag loads.

Blue Dot or Universal Clays for medium loads.:)

From a 1995 Winchester loading manual:
44 Mag

210 JHP--11.7 grs---1385 fps----38000 cup
240 gr. Lead swc--11.0 grs---1285 fps---38000 cup

Winchesters velocity figures are somewhat optimistic based on some of my chrono data. If you subtract 100 fps from those figures you will be very close.

Barrel length? Powder? W296?..:)

According to the manual data was shot out of a 6.5" bbl. Their data for 296 was as follows:

240 gr. lead swc--25.0 grs.---1560 fps----37500 cup
240 HSP (jacketed)--24 grs.---1430 fps----38000 cup

My chrono data out of a 7.5 " Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 245 cast lead swc:
25 grs. 296-- 1430 fps
11.0 grs. 231--1160 fps

The 296 load was fired in the past in different guns owned by friends, nothing less than 6" bbls and velocities were always in the 1300-1400 fps range. Winchester velocities for their .357 & .44 mag loads were always overly optimistic. BTW the 11.0/231 was a very accurate mid range .44 load.

Thanks

I finally found some data, seems safe enough to try
6.5gr of 231 wont blast my face off for sure.

What is 1680 good for anyway? I got it for 762x39 but sold the rifle....

would 1680 work in .30-30? I try a search, but if any of you guys have used it... how is it?
