The new Rifleman show the British adopted a version of the LM308MWS as thier new battle rifle. That's a pretty big endorsement. They consider it a significant imporvement over the FAL they used a before the current L85A1.
I like them all but an AR-10 type is looking better and better.

LMT makes a quality firearm and I'm sure their accuracy is there to meet the standards of a battle rifle. I had the MRP in 223 and it was a very high quality piston driven weapon. The problem I had with it was it had proprietary parts that required a special tools to remove the barrel.

For roughly the same money you could purchase the OBR which is delivering bolt action accuracy.

Either way you go your buying quality but your getting more accuracy for your money with LARUE. Also look at the 2010 sniper competitions with military shooters and look what the winning teams are shooting. A lot if them in 2010 were OBR's.

Good luck.

Remember.. if you go with a 308 AR platform or AR10 platform to understand all the differences and compatabilities and then if you want direct impingment or piston driven. I'm partial to D.I. as it's worked very well for a long time.

FNAR is what I'd get. They just came out with a new model that has a McMillan stock. That thing wasn't designed for a pistol grip in the first place.

I went through this and chose a SA M1a Loaded with Carbon Steel Barrel. This will be my only real rifle. It is brilliant, extremely accurate, reliable and easy to use. It comes with the best sights ever placed on a battle rifle. Now, I might someday get a Scout or Bush model just to have the 18.5 barrel on the same platform. I am planning on dropping this into a SAGE EBR in the near future.

I have owned fal, shot g3 clones, and ARs. I just dont warm up to the ARs, but if I did I would buy a DPMS LR and enjoy the modification ability that AR platform gives you.

I owned a S.A. M1A Standard for awhile, I had to own one. After trying to scope it I realized that it really wasn't meant for scopes. As you really can't take advantage of the .308's range without scoping it I felt I needed to figure something out.
I sold it and bought a RRA LAR-8 A4 and it has been great so far and scoping is a non-issue.
I'm looking real hard at a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T M1 4.5-14X50mm w/illuminated TMR to put on it, pricey though.
