Looking for a 9mm pistol to have as a self defense/plinking gun?

What i didn't like about the Hi-Point was the Hi-Point itself,i mean it's a great truck gun,but it just wasn't ''worth having'' in my opinion, not knocking anyone who has a Hi-Point.Like i said the gun went bang everytime i pulled the trigger but just isn't my cup of tea i guess. The 40 S&W round is nice nothing against it,but if i had to choose i would probably choose a 9mm as it is cheaper to buy and shoot.
Dangit i knew i forgot something...and that is to ask what type of Glock or what gen of Glock they were,i am ASSUMING they were Gen 3 Glocks, might have been Gen 2....i'm honestly just not sure lol.Guess i got caught up in the awe factor of just holding one lol.

Edit: thanks for the suggestion OkieGunner,i get paid this Saturday and will have around $385 give or take a little after my check comes in so i will definitely look into the gun.

$385? Ruger P95, S&W SD9VE. The Ruger is a SA/DA, the S&W is a "Glock type" striker fired DAO. Both can be had after taxes and maybe 200 rounds of ammo and a box of hollow points for $385 out the door.

I have a Ruger that's been great, it's a fantastic no frills gun. Only read good things about the S&W. Ruger has a lighter trigger, the Smith is a lighter gun! :D Personal preference between the too, it'd probably be easier to find a Ruger though.

A tad off topic, but for ammo I'd recommend ordering bulk online at Sportsman's Guide. 250 Speer Lawman 115 gr 9mm for like $61 right now. You can buy Wolf or Brown Bear imported for maybe $50/250, but in my personal experience the US ammo is worth the small cost increase.

Sounds like good guns Noah,i'm thinking of saving up though and either buying the Glock for $420 next week or getting a new Glock for $500,i will have enough by next Saturday for either one....the problem is staying patient lol.

IMO the Hi Point C9 is alright but I'd avoid any of the larger models. Not that they won't work fine and last as long as the C9, my issue is that they are much larger and feel like a cordless drill in your hand.

Be patient and wait for the more for the used glock. Depending on the condition you might be able to get it for less than the $425 they have it listed for. The used Glock is going to last for a very long time. I wouldn't worry about betting a new one. It will be used as soon as you pull the trigger anyway.

Yeah i really liked the Glock they had up there, from what i could tell (i didn't take it apart.) it looked to be in very good condition. The name of the place the Glock was at is called Village Gunsmith,Gunshop and Police Supply so i'm guessing it is a police trade in gun, although i could be wrong.Should i be worried the Glock is just priced at $425 or is that about right for a used Glock?I'm thinking of offering them $409 since i got paid a little more than i thought i would this week...hopefully they bite,i know it's $16 less than what they have it for but you never know.

With a quality gun like Glock (or Ruger etc) there's nothing wrong with used. These things will easily last a lifetime.

Most gun shops around here are more than willing to negotiate, especially on used. My guess is he paid less than $350 for it and will happily take $400.

Hey everyone,i have saved up my money for a new Glock 19 being sold here by a gun shop that sells both new and used guns (best of both worlds i think.).But i won't be able to get the gun until Monday because apparently the place that does background checks is closed on the weekends, has anyone ever heard of that?I didn't personally go myself as i was at work,so i'm not sure what generation Glock it was.I'm guessing though it is a generation 3 or 4 though, the price for the gun after taxes, background check ect. is $564.24 does that seem like a good price? The only problem is waiting another day to get the gun! What can i say,i'm impatient lol.

Probably a Gen 4. If you are getting 3 mags, then it's a Gen 4.

GREAT DECISION, by the way. Glock 19 is one of the all-time great handguns. You'll love it!

I'm so happy we helped you make a wise decision.

Yep i agree, thanks WinthePennant and everyone else.Wished i would have saved up in the first place and got the Glock, but i learned my lesson.Good things do come to those who wait! Can't wait to get this gun tomorrow!

Hey everyone i got the Glock 19 yesterday, was going to post earlier today but the forum was down. The 19 i got was a Gen 3 not a 4 which is fine for me,the gen 3 has been around longer and there is a lot of accessories for it.I believe my gun was manufactured...or atleast test fired on 2/09/12 going by what is on the envelope that came with the gun.

I have a question about the rod and brush that came with it,i have heard the bore brush sucks, but i am wondering if the rod that came with it will be fine to clean the gun with as long as i buy a brass brush for it?Also what is the threads for the rod that comes with Glocks? It might say what the threads are in the paper work that came with the Glock but i honestly haven't read much of it.

Congrats! I'm sure one of the Glock owners can answer about the brush. From what I've seen they seem pretty standardized, at least I've never had any trouble with random brushes bought at gun shows fitting my old Hopps rod.

I use the supplied brush with no problems.

Hoppe's #9 will take most anything out.

Make sure and watch videos on youtube about proper lubing. It hardly needs anything. You shouldn't even really see any lube on it.

Thanks everyone,i have saw videos on youtube, and it's crazy just how little lube this gun needs!I think it needs a drop (literally a drop) of lube on ech rail of the frame and that's it,if i'm remembering correctly anyway. This gun feels great in my hand i will say,the only bad thing is i spent all my money on the gun.So now i won't be able to shooti it until my next paycheck....oh well, the local walmart was selling 100 rounds for $20,that's already 50% cheaper than the .40 S&W rounds i was shooting,i believe they were anywhere from $20 to $25 for just 50!
