I have come across lots of safes that are the right size, but none that are set up for handguns only and hold a reasonable amount of guns. Does anyone make a handgun safe with a descent amount of shelves and NO rifle storage? Digital/touchpad preferred, but combination wouldn't be all that bad. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

If you're looking at 'full sized' safes ....

or HSC's (Household Security Containers) which is what
they are, why not build your own 'interior'.
Most seem to come with a somewhat 'modifiabe'
interior setup allowing rifles, and shelves but that
is all removable.
Remove everything and you have a large empty box.
You could build vertical pieces with pegs on one or
both sides to hang the pistols on and then have the
vertical pieces on heavy-duty slides allowing them
to be 'pulled out' for selection.
Just a thought.

Sam's Club has a really nice one that already has shelf peg runners on the sides, but it isn't tall enough and it's a little expensive for all the bigger it is. The problem with putting in the shelf peg runners is that you have to drill holes up and down the sides, doesn't that sort of defeat the fireproofing? Do most of them already have the runners inside and I'm just not looking? Thanks!

Check and see if you have any local gun safe manufacturers in your area. I recently needed another safe to handle my overflow of C&R rifles, and went to Visalia Safes in CA. They built me an interior to handle both my extra long rifles and some handguns. They could just as easily have made a "handgun only" interior. The custom interior was at no charge. You can also usually get a lot more bang for your buck buying from a local guy versus the big safe companies.

Well, actually

what you would need to build is a kind of
liner/inner box that would be assembled
inside the safe - not NEARLY as difficult as
a ship-in-a-bottle ;-)
The slides/shelves etc. could then be
attached to this in any configuration you wanted
without drilling holes in the outside of the safe
(definitely NOT a good idea).

These are on Liberty Safe. I am sure they could make one with any interior you wanted.

Stay away from the electric touchpads. I had one, got a good deal on a Liberty Harley safe but it had the pad. Luckily it went when the safe was open. Liberty backed it 100% though. Sent me the new dial and the locksmith came to the house to install it. I had him change the combo to match my other safe at the same time.
