what are the better websites to peruse thru to find a pistol i want. looking for a Springfield XD or XDM .45. not sure if i should get ACP or GAP yet. i really want to get a 1911, but i don't think that's a good first gun, and way out of my league to start my gun accumulation.

thanks!

Go with the acp, hands down easier to find ammo. It matters more with a compact Glock to go with the gap, but even now a days you'll not notice much of a difference.

Gunsamerica and gunbroker are both good sites to check out for auction bidding. Used guns from J & G and Budsgunshop are great also.

No XDm in .45 yet so don't spend too much time searching for one. They did bring one out in 9mm, you get 19+1 rounds in that caliber, not too shabby.

I would avoid the GAP like the plague unless you really enjoy hard to find ammo. With the ACP you can just go to wally world, good luck finding GAP at walmart or the like.

And the GAP model of the XD is built on the 9mm/.40S&W/.357Sig frame so you only get 9+1 rounds mag capacity. With the ACP you've got 13+1. Unless your hands can't manage to hold the XD45ACP, there is really no reason to use the GAP.

afaik the xdm in 45 acp hasn't been released yet. start local. check the classifides on this site. also check your local texes state forums. the problem with buying used online is you can't look at the gun and inspect it in person, and by the time you pay shipping and transfer fees, you would have been better off buying new. buying online is great for rare or discontinued guns, but for an xd, of wich there are thousands of, stick to local.

there is nothing wrong with a 1911 for a first gun, and can be found locally used for about the same price as an xd. another option for a first gun would be a 22. cheap ammo, doesnt scare away first time shooters, alows a shooter to relax and learn the fundamentals of shooting and owning a gun without breaking the bank. used ruger mk2's can be found all day long for around two bills. hope this helps, good luck.

A first time novice buyer definitely stick to local sales. Do a bit of reading up on what you think you maybe interested in. Know that peice inside out so you can make an intelligent decision.

As stated above the .45 GAP is not only hard to find sometimes, but expensive.

Two websites that I like to take ganders at are gunsamerica and gunsinternational. They are both classifieds. They have listings from individuals and dealers too. You can sort by caliber, manufacturer, etc.

I have carried a 45acp for 35 years in my shop and for everyday carry. I have customized 4 or 5 for myself but always sold them when someone offered me more then I thought they were worth, then in 1988 I bought a Safari arms Cohart I have carried it ever since, shot thousands of rounds threw it. I wouldn't sell that gun for any money, it comes with everything you could want for extras, and a trigger pull so smooth and light yet crisp. They will honor the warranty even if you are not the original owner.
