What if you suddenly realized you had $500 placed in your hands and you could pick something/s off of your "to buy" list? I've got that opportunity in front of me - a belated CHristmas gift arrived and I'm thinking of what to do with it.

My shortened "to buy" list includes:
- M1 Carbine (Inland) for $420 thru CMP, plus a couple mags @ $15/per
- an AK from classicarms.us
- Save it toward an XDm 9mm, probably able to get it next month
- CZ 82 in 9mm mak plus a pot-wad of ammo and some other small "extras"
- XD 45 compact
- Ruger SP101 (this is the bottom of my list, as I have an LCR, a 4" Smith model 15 and a 6" GP100 covering my revolver bases.)

I was leaning toward the XDm, except for two things: One, the Carbine just sounds like a fun gun for the range and HD. Two, I'm hoping now that Springfield has come out with the 3.8", they might also make a compact XDm with the shorter grip frame - the full-size is just huge. Plus, XDs will always be around....Carbines, not so long.

No poll...just opinions...
Thanks,

Carbine would be my choice, followed by the XD 45. The Carbine has history as well as fun factors.

Carbine. They aren't making the REAL ones anymore, and the one's they're making now just don't cut it.

My Inland's been one of the most fun firearms I own, way moreso than my Garand or AR15.

ETA: For those curious, hand-picked it from the CMP North Store the first weekend Carbines came back.

From your list I would pick the CZ-82 and extras.

From my own list it would either be one of the new S&W 442 no-locks or an LCR. I havent decided yet.

There's a couple I can think of.

-22 Revolver
-22 Lever Rifle
-Put towards a Romanian PSL since I have gobs of light ball in my basement.

I would be tempted to buy a RIA 1911, but I really want to see what kind of "100th anniversary" Model 1911's will be coming around next year. I would probably go for wither some type of rifle, maybe an SKS or AK, or if I could find one, a nice K frame 4" .38 special revolver.

I really like my xDM -- and it sure doesn't seem like a very large handgun to me. But lots of folks say the xDM is huge, so it must be true.

It would be hard to argue against having an M1 Carbine. I love my Underwood. They're a great little rifle and a lot of fun to shoot.

In the end, $500 would go most of the way to paying for my ammo for the year. I'd probably spend it on that, but a new gun sure is tempting!

If it were me I'd have to go with the M1 Carbine. It's a piece of history and they still make the others. As an added bonus I have Grandad's marksman qualification that would just have to be displayed with it when it was resting.

Did just that...but didn't get $300 of ammo, yet. I love the CZ82 - not quite built like a tank - more like an urban assault vehicle. :)

From your list it would be the CZ 82. I've got one and love it! Think I will get another sometime this year. From my own list... Egyptian Hakim.

IF there was a CMP store nearby the carbine is a great choice.

Me? I know where there's a dandy reblued Colt 1903 .32 for sale...

I would buy me this knife or one of the folders. Bought one for my nephew who is in the middle east right now, Afgan I think. They are truly sweeet.

Are there any issues with the Inland-receiver M1 Carbine? Why is it $75 cheaper than the next brand CMP carries?

Does the receiver brand really make any difference? The CMP website says the M1 Carbines are all mixmaster, anyway, so it's not like I'll get a 100% Inland.
