Hello,
I am in the market for a 338 win mag. I shoot left handed so my choices are limited. I am looking at the Browning A Bolt stalker and the SAVAGE 116FLSS. Yes SS and synthetic. I am really a Remington 700 guy, but dont want to go to the 338 RUM. Does anyone have experence with these rifles?
Any alternatives?
Thanks

I have a Remington 700 AWR in .338 Ultra Magnum.

I love it. Excellent gun. Excellent cartridge. Major down side is cost of ammo, but bullet variety is surprisingly good. I shot my first 2 deer with 180 gr nosler ballistic tips from Federal. Made for 2 very dead deer. So dead, they both probably died twice, lol.

If you reload, or dont mind paying ~$50 and up for a box of ammo, then .338 Ultra Mag is a great option.

Remington still makes .338 win mags, if you dont want to go the way of the big daddy .338 RUM... just none that are left handed.

FYI, the largest left handed Remington I could find (non custom shop) is a .300 Ultra Mag in an XCR. There arent many left handed rifles out there in that caliber, so if it has to be a .338 and left handed action, your choices will be very limited.

I havent shot the browning, but I have played with a stainless stalker at a local gun store. It looks good and handles pretty well. Seemed like a decent gun. Some of them are made in Japan though. You may not care, but I know alot of people that wont buy a japanese gun.

I can tell you first hand that the Browning SS in .338 Win. Mag. is a very fine hunting rifle. What might you use it for??

For the short term (next couple of years) Elk hunting. Eventually I want to go to Alaska for a brown bear. With Alaska in mind I am leaning twords the SS models.
