I would love a stock in timber but Marlin only make 'em in synthetic material:(

Does anyone have an links to aftermarket stock to suit the above

Also can anyone advise if it might be possible to bastardize a timber stock from a marlin 60 to meet my needs

Thanks lads

There is no advantage to wood in this application - in fact there are dis-advantages IMO .

I haven't looked closely ,but since the receiver is the same ,I suspect one could cut down a standard model 70 wooden stock to use it on the papoose.
As far as aftermarket ones, I haven't seen any.

it is a survivival rifle, meant to be broken apart and treated to nasty conditions, thrown behind the seat of your truck, dragged and knocked around, etc. . why would you want a wood stock on it? if you want a nice looking rife, i wouldnt buy a papoose!

Yes there are older model Papoose rifles with wood (or at least wood-ish) stocks. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I did see a papoose that had a brown stock in a gun store a while ago. It appeared to be fairly old, compared to most of the papooses I've seen. I can tell you this much; the stock was not a nice walnut or otherwise impressive stock.

You might have to cut down a different marlin stock, as the other poster was suggesting.

Here's an image stolen via google search of a marlin Papoose with a wood stock:

Here is a picture of my old (late-1980s) 70P with a and current 70PSS.

I only want a timber stock so as i can machine a sturdy joint just to the rear of the pistol grip.
The problem with the modern synthetic stock is that its hollow!! and as such its unable to provide sound purchase for screw, nuts and bolts etc etc.:banghead:

I have been very interested in the papoose for backpacking. Squirrels are to small and fast for me to expect to take them with a pistol. No one around here carries them and I hate ordering guns that I have never put my hands on. Got burned that way with the "springfield survival 22/410". Way heavier than I expected. I wish the papoose barrel fit in the stock like the AR-7.

Hay M'bogo how do you know if it wooden or not.
The stocks for the 70p will fit the 70pss:confused:

Anyway i'll contact them to confirm that its timber.. but thanks for a great site and some great info. Now all i have to do is try and get around the $100 export limit..
It could be worse! Ireland could be on the USA Restricted Countries list...

70P = Wooden stock.

70PSS = Synthetic stock.

A stock for a 70P should fit a 70PSS.

Can a synthetic stock have a hole drilled in the front of the pistol grip under the trigger guard to allow the barrel to be inserted into the butstock? :confused:That would make a smaller package for storage.

The rifle comes with a carrying case that is very compact already and floats. I wouldn't advise drilling out a hole for the barrel. I would just use the provided case.

Ok the stock for the 70P is slightly different. It requires careful milling to remove extra material from the receiver side and the trigger guard side if you going to fit all the 70PSS parts. :cuss:
