seriously considering this as my EDC.. need small and want 9mm...

looking for any experiences from folks who actually have owned one of these..

thanks for any and all information

I've had one since shortly after they first came out, and several years later, I'm still a fan.

I've had no issues with mine, and still carry it quite often.

Had one, then I bought a Taurus 709. The Taurus 709 is the same size, has a far better trigger, and is far more comfortable to fire. Oh and it actually comes with two mags. After shooting them back to back, I got rid of the PF-9.

There's nothing wrong with the PF-9 though.

I've had some issues, but none of them were really deal-breakers, and one of them has been completely fixed in the later models.

1: The metal edge of the magazine sheared enough plastic off of the original plastic magazine catch, until recoil would drop the magazine out of the gun. It was replaced with a metal magazine catch, and new PF-9s come from the factory with the metal magazine catch.

2: The rear sight is held in with an allen screw. It had come loose after several years, enough to change POI significantly. I tightened it back down and it solved the problem entirely.

3: The extractor spring is also held in with an allen screw. It also came loose over time, and resulted in consistent FTEs on the last round of the magazine. Tightening the screw again fixed the problem.

4: It was just darned uncomfortable to shoot. I added the grip extension magazine plates and I can now manage to squeeze three fingers onto the grip. I have since put grip extensions on all of my magazines.

I like mine. I've had it for a little over a year, have about 1100 rounds through it. I've never experienced any problems with it, and somehow I manage to shoot this pistol better then my P250 9mm at the range.

I have no experience with the Kahr trigger, but I will say my Sig's DAO trigger is nicer. Still makes me wonder why I manage to hit plates more with the PF9... But for the price I paid, I have no complaints.

I use my PF9 as a daily carry. I have a Kel-Tec P3AT, the PF-9, Sig P250 and a Walther P22. I have never, ever, had any problems with either the P250 or the PF-9, even with crummy cheap ammo. The one warning I will say it that the gun will kick. Only way to solve that is go all metal. But since these are my carry pieces, I'll live with the recoil. Hope this helps.

FP9 is one of the best pocket guns. I don't EDC it, as I can usually get away with a bigger gun, but when discretion is important the FP9 comes along.

Trigger gets smoother after 200 rounds.

I really like my PF9... fits well in my hand and is accurate enough for what it is. However, mine is now at Keltec for repair under warranty.... I started getting light strikes on the primer. It may be as simple as gunk in the firing pin area.... but the manual specifically states not to take it that far apart and to return to Keltec if that disassembly is necessary.

Ditto.

I had one. Mine was a little too finicky for me. I could shoot it fine but the minuite I loosened up my grip a little it would FTE. I sold it and bought a PM9 and everything but my wallet is much happier. The PM9 is a little shorter overall and pocket carries a little better for me.

Carried one for awhile now. Reliable, accurate, easy to shoot. I think my PF-9 is more pleasant to shoot than my P3AT. I do not use a mag extension, I wrap my pinkie under the mag base.
After around 800 rounds through it, I've experienced no failures, no glitches...it just goes bang when I need it to.
I have dozens of pistols suitable for carry, the PF-9 gets carried daily.

I've had one for quite some time now but I don't find myself shooting it that often at the range. It's a good conceal carry gun - if you compare it to its competitors (single stack, thin, 9x19 and up, subcompact guns).
You have the...

Taurus 709 (or 740) slim
Walther PPS
Kahr PM9
and a few other (very expensive *cough* rohrbaugh) lesser known options.
Also, upcoming for 2011 should be the (also pricey) Sig P290

So I picked the PF-9 over the PPS and PM9 because it was priced better - about $280-320, in fact, the PF-9 is priced better than the Taurus Slim which usually sells for around $340-380. Also the PF-9 is I believe smaller overall and certainly lighter than the Taurus Slim.
On the downside, because of its light weight I've found myself not shooting it as often as my other guns because the PF-9 is like a little gremlin in your hands. The trigger also leaves a lot to be desired. You can't have it all with a CC gun though ... so compromise.

:what:

It only takes a few minutes (one screw) to remove the firing pin and clean the channel. I had to clean mine cuz of light strikes. Mine has been 100% since. I'm happy with the trigger on mine. On the newer ones the plastic mag catch is a non-issue.

Attention: PF-9, not a range gun.

I kept my PF9 for half a year before I decided to trade it. These are the type of guns that you have to practice more regularly compared to other guns to be proficient with. They are small, aiming it to the actual POA is to learn from this gun, and it is very snappy. For awhile, I learned how to shoot it well. I then stopped shooting it for one month and shot it again. The gun felt as if I never fired before. I had to relearn how to shoot it. That made me decide to sell it. I needed a gun that I could shoot well "out of the box". I would advise that you test fire one before you decide to spend good money on it. Good luck!

I have one and love it. Light, small, reliable. I have a Kahr PM40 and a Keltec P3AT in a similiar class. If money were no object I would have a Rohrbaugh or PM9 for fit, finish, and the small size size difference...but I feel confident in trusting my life to the Keltec.

My wife bought one at a local gun show this summer, and it hasnt left her side since. It is acurate within self defence ranges, she shoots it very well, and it was almost laughably inexpensive. The only things I have had issue with were the extra mags that I bought for it (Kel-Tech factory mags) the springs are almost too stiff when new, but a little shooting has relaxed them enought to not be an issue any longer, and the finish of the steel slide was terrible. The finish was easily fixed though, just strip the fram order a new front sight from KelTech for a buck, and sprayed the slide with K-G Gunkote. Now it is not only smoother in apperance, but more durrable for every day carry.

Great gun. I bought a p11 and thought the narrower pf9 would be better...yes it is. Great carry/backpacking pistol.

I also had a P11 but after I bought the PF9, the P11 went down the road. The PF9 has a much better trigger and shoots very good for it's size. I don't think the recoil is too bad either. For the price you can't beat it.

I like mine, it carries IWB so easily. I usually carry "Mexican style" because IWB holsters seem to add so much width to the gun when it is this thin. Probably will be getting one of Kel-Tecs belt clips for the gun eventually.

I like shooting it but it is strong on recoil. If you can shoot a large caliber revolver it should be no problem. I'll put several boxes of ammo through it when I go to the range. Makes a full size 9mm feel like a .22 afterwards... The trigger isn't so bad for DA but is long. Better than the P11's I held however.

I did have the extractor spring screw loosen and cause lots of FTE. Loctite is the answer.
Oh, and the gun is not designed for extended dry firing without a snap cap. That same extractor screw is the firing pin stop and it can chew up the end of the screw I am told.

I have one and love it. I carried it all summer in shorts and t shirt, and I could do almost anything without being bothered by it. My wife has a PT 709, and I don't like it as much. The PF9 is smaller, lighter, easier to take down and I like the trigger pull better. Mine has always functioned well. I can't remember any malfunctions. Even though I don't like shooting it, and don't shoot much at a time, I got to be pretty accurate with it. You can adapt to the long trigger pull.

I like mine, the recoil is not as bad as I thought it might be and the accuracy is better than I thought it would be. Try one, if you dont like it sell it. For what they cost, even if you dont get all your money back you wont be out much.

had one for a year or so. put about 2k through it and carried it every day. now my brother has it and carries/loves it. he has a XD9 service but can't really hide it while at work so the pf9 is perfect for him.

i loved it and wish i still had it, but i have P3at in a pocket for at work now. always loved keltec's
