Any suggestions where I can find cheap bulk .380 ammo? It looks like I am going to be going through a lot of the stuff.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you checked out Natchez' S&B at $6.25 per 50?

Also, someone recently mentioned Walmart or Dick's Sporting Goods may be selling it for almost as cheap as their bulk-packed 9mm Para ammo.

Natchez .com

I may be opening a can of worms here, but I would recommend Wolf in .380.

I get it from Sportsmans Guide. It's only $98.97 per thousand. Buy an extra box to activate this coupon (SPG1510 ($10 OFF Any Order $99+)). Your total would be $103.94 and $93.94 after the coupon. Shipping is only $13.99 (real hard to beat this price). Making your Grand total $117.93 for 1050 rounds. That's the cheapest that I have seen for .380 ammo. $.11 a round after shipping.

Ammoman does have some Russian ammo for $115 per 1000 rounds.

Lobotomy Boy, a word of warning about Wolf ammo out of your 'New Bersa Thunder380'. Both my Thunder380 & my Firestorm380 eat Wolf great now, but it took about 100 rounds each to break them in to where they would fully go into battery with it. You may not have any problems at all, just wanted to share that tid bit of info.

This is a little of topic, but do any of you feel it is worth it to join Sportsmans Guide Club for the little bit better pricing?

I think that it's worth the money for the club. not only does it give you a 5% discount on ammo and 10% on other stuff, but once it actually helped me out on some shipping charges. My order total knocked me into the next shipping bracket, but after the discount on the order, I saved some more $ on shipping.

Becasue I like good deals, I use other website to get 4% cash back on my purchases from SG, and use coupons in my shopping cart like $5 off a $49 order or $10 off a $99 order. All of this is in addition to my club discount. I try to get more for my money. Plus I pay with a card that gives me 1.5% cash back.

No I am not a cheap A**. ;)

I can't recommend Wolf .380 ACP. The steel cases seem to have too much adhesion to the chamber and leads to extraction failures in many guns.

Definitely don't buy a case to find out! Aluminum cased Blaser worked fine in the guns where Wolf had extraction failures, so it wasn't that the guns were finikey. I shoot lots of Wolf in other calibers without problems.

I've found MagTech FMJ for $99 a case of 1000. Armscor is usually under $6/box of 50. Both have worked fine in the guns Wolf had problems in.

Not trying to start an agruement with Wally about Wolf ammo here, but I haevn't had any problems with Wolf ammo in .380. I shoot Wolf in my .380, and it functions flawlessly. Not to mention that I have and shoot it in .40 and 7.62x39 (much more expensive guns), and those guns like it.

Maybe you should pick up a box or two at a local gun shop and see if it works in your gun. If it doesn't work, then try another brand. If it does, use it.

Nothing to argue about. I didn't say Wolf failed to work in all guns.
I mearly wanted to emphisize that it might not be wise to buy a case without verifing that it works in your guns first.

Wolf has been very good for me in all calibers but .380.

The miwall reloads through outdoor marksman are a great option. You can 500 rounds packaged in an ammo can for about $70 shipped. Their .380 offerings are here.

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered 500 rounds from Natchez last night before some of the other posts appeared. There appear to be many options. I do a lot of shooting, so the 500 rounds will last me maybe 3 weeks tops. I can experiment with some different types of ammo this way before I start ordering 1000-round cases.

I've heard that Wolf uses two different types of coating on its ammo. There is a red lacquer that can cause FTE problems on some ammo, while other shells are coated with a different type of lubricant (lead-based?) Could this be why some people have better results than others?

I've not tried any of the "new Wolf" with the polymer coating. Yes it could be a factor, so too can be the fact that the first stuff sold as Wolf was surplus that really was pretty bad from what I understand -- there may still be some of it floating around out there. All the Wolf I've shot has a copper colored steel case with a clear lacquer coating and a red sealer on the primer.

As the Russians learn about "free markets" their stuff will either get better or go off the market as time goes buy.

I've ordered from www.ammoman.com and got great service. Most of my Wolf came from www.jgsales.com or sportsman's guide. Natchez is a first rate operation, I hope you checked the "NRA Roundup" option on your order to contibute a few pennies to the cause -- it adds up!

I tried a variety of brands, including 300 rounds of American Ammunition (brass-cased, boxer-primed, reloadable). Anyone had experience with this brand? I also ordered 200 rounds of 9mm in this brand.

My order averaged out to $13.89/100, with shipping. That's about $3/100 cheaper than Wally World's price, so I saved $15 bucks. Which sort of makes up for the fact I found the scope I bought on Saturday at a gun show for $20 less than I paid on Natchez.com.

Search the forum -- lots of bad news about American Ammunition, don't recall seeing anything really favorable. Let's hope they've improved recently.

If you have a Gander Mountain store in your area do this:

Find your best price within a sixty mile radius of the store. If its less than GM's price take it to the GM and do a "Price match". Their price matching policy is to not just match the price but then they double the difference and deduct it from their price.

Example-GM price is $8, Joe's gun shop is $7. The price difference is $1. Double that to make it $2, deduct from the GM price of $8, you pay $6.

I pay less than $6 for Blazer .380 this way.

By the way, this policy even applies to their ammo on sale. I just bought five 9mm Winchester value packs for $10 each.

Thanks 38snapcap. I live within 3 miles of a Gander Mountain and I like to give them business. I'd much rather shop there than Wally World. I'll shop around for the best price and bring it to them.

I tried Silver Bear hollowpoint 380 in my Colt Pony, and it feed and fired ok, at $5.99/50 for hollowpoints, it wasn't a bad deal, but I wouldn't trust it for my carry load.......

If you live near a Dick's Sporting Goods, they run UMC 380 for around $7 per box of 50, on a regular basis.
Actually, it's been on sale for 3 weeks in a row now.

My P3AT loves it.
My gun wouldn't shoot Wolf, and some imported surplus ammo, but all of the brass cased American ammo that I've tried, it loves.

I picked up 500 rounds for $6.98/box of 50 from Dick's Sporting Goods a while back. I didn't pay shippng but paid tax. I think that it came to about $0.147 per round. This was for UMC 95gr FMJ. It might be pricey, but the regular cost is closer to $10/box.
