Does anyone know where I can find new old stock, factory wood grips (with Colt Medallions) for a Colt Diamondback? Thanks.

I find them on E-Bay sometimes. Not cheap if there in good shape.

I've been sorting through my grips, but I don't think I have a set of the factories for a Diamondback. I know a guy who does grips who'll probably have them, but he's awfully proud of his stuff. :what: Let me know if you can't find them anywhere else, and I'll ask him, but be prepared for sticker shock.......

I just checked ebay, none on now, and none showing in completed, except for aftermarkets, so I can't even tell you what a good price would be for them. Factory Pythons are off the wall expensive.

It's funny how we all took the factory grips off our guns in the old days and put Pachmayrs and such on them, and now we wish we had them back. I'm still looking for a couple of factory grips for some of my old stuff.

I've been searching Ebay, Gunbroker, and Auction Arms for about a month now and haven't spotted any factory grips. I'll probably pick up a pair of Pachmayrs' Presentation grips for now, but keep looking for some factory stocks.

Nice grips/pics BBBS.

Elmer, if you don't mind, ask that guy about Diamondback grips and see what he says.

Thanks.

nero If you want a set of pach presentation grips I have a set here. Pay the shipping and there yours. I have about 8 Dbacks and everytime I get a new one I'm always changing them around. Right now I only have that one set. I think I gave around $50 for them. Keep looking you'll find some.

The grips may be listed as being for D-frame sized guns. The D-frame was also used for the Police Positive and the Detective Special. Grips for those revolvers should fit your Diamondback.

If you are looking for originals you also have to know the time frame the revolver was built in so you can get the appropiate styled stocks.

I echo Majic comments on knowing the manufacture date of your Diamondback. The 2.5" Diamondbacks always had the walnut service grips. The others ("target grips") depend on your general date of manufacture and then there is no major guarantee unless its a 70's gun.

I probably have some factory Diamondback grips lying around. There will be sticker shock as I really don't want to sell them badly. I keep them around for new acquisitions with non-factory grips. Continue to check out Ebay weekly for them after you determine which are the appropriate walnut grips. You also can find them at gun shows periodically.

I'll check on what he has. I assume you want the target stocks? I think they only came on the Diamondback. Shouldn't matter when your was made. I think all the Diamondbacks use the newer D frame grip.

I agree about persistance on the auction sites. That's how you'll get a better deal. If the guy I know has them, I doubt they'll be 50 bucks.

NOS Colt Diamondback target stocks!

Nero45ACP:

I have a set of NEW(NOS)Colt Diamondback target stocks! They are super-mint! They have never been put on any gun! You will look long and wide, before you will find any that's this nice! E-mail me at: [email protected] if you are interested in discussing these stocks?

Shouldn't matter when your was made. I think all the Diamondbacks use the newer D frame grip.
All Diamondbacks did use the new short stocks, but there is different checkering designs. The early design had the checkering partially wrapping around the medallion and the later models had the checkering in a straight line on a diagonal under the medallion.

Thanks to all for the replies and info. I've got a couple of prospects on NOS or like new Diamondback grips. I'll let you'll know how it works out.

BBBS, Thank you very much for the generous offer! If I can't get a set of factory Diamondback target grips, I'd like to take you up on your very kind offer. I'll let you know in a few days, if that's OK.

Slick6, I've emailed you.

nero45acp: Check the date of manufacture on the Diamondback in question (serial #). As Majic said, there was a change in grip design around 1980 on the target stocks. There was a transition period, that is the period when it is difficult to be sure you have the absolutely correct grips. Does it really matter? Probably if you are a collector. Otherwise as mentoned, any D-frame Colt stock will fit the Diamondback frame.
