i finally got the name of the shop, it is : Wild Sports in Orangevale (suburb of Sacramento) and their number is 916 988-5375

the good news is that they are still $649.97 (their sticker price is $799) and they still have about 3 in back

the bad news is that they don't ship...but i guess you could have you're FFL call to make sure.

i didn't think the engraving was too too bad and the finish on the rest of the piece was very nice. the only thing slightly objectionable was the small gap between the tang of the frame and the grip safety, it wasn't a hairline like the last time i had an Ed Brown highride fitted to my officers ACP...but then this wasn't a custom fitted one either. i also like the cutouts on the trigger of the SW1911 better than the holes on the Sc.

they hadn't heard about the smaller signage on the new SW1911s coming out. they were just moving stock that they had had dollars tied up in for awhile.

I have one that I bought for about 725 last summer. I hand selected it from 3 available. I got the one with the best barrel fit.

It has been flawless on reliability, although it doesn't like a shok buff with full power loads. From the box it shot POA which is rare in my experience. I have put maybe 1200 rounds through it - 1/2 were self defense stuff (fed hydrashok and win ranger) 230 grain non +P. The rest were my 170 pf 200 gr lead SWC loads. No burps except when a shok buff was installed.

The external extractor works great and the trigger and handling of the gun are just fine. The dehorning is good for a carry gun, and it is plenty accurate (under 2.5" at 25) with my swc's. Everything is fitted up nicely.

With that said, the hammer face developed a crack at about 300 rds. Smith fixed it pronto, paid shipping both ways. It appears to be a mccormick hammer.

I like the Wilson thumb and grip safeties. I don't like the big billboard and bohr atomic model on the side (omigosh it's Nuclear!) but she sure runs. I hear they are going to unveil a 5" Sc model at the Shot show. Also the big billboard markings are a thing of the past. So count me in as a buyer for the new 5" model, and I would not hesitate to buy a commander sized one.

As noted above it does balance nicely. I don't find the recoil too much to deal with, although I'm not very recoil sensitive. The only thing I wish it came with was bar-dot novaks instead of the 3-dots.

"Thanks... sigh... I called them, no ship; just won't do it..."

A Pox on them, then!

Think will call them up and ask the owner if he's in bed with Fynestein.............

Thanks for reminding me about my home state. I really must get the hell out of this LIBERIAL ses-pool of a commi state some time soon.

Eh, sorry. You pushed one of my hot buttons. Even here in Florida with a gun-friendly governor and legislator, we have to constantly battle that southeast corner of New York City which you may know by the name of Palm Beach & Dade Counties.

Brother you are absolutely right on that, but after a long hard fight with not even a little bit of light at the other end of the tunnel, I stop digging put the shovel in the ground and walk out for my own sanity(what's left any way). Not the best way to be, but I really do get sick of fighting with over educated, over sensitized, super liberal, hippie freaks that only run their lives on emotions alone, facts never have and never will mean a thing to these people. They only know what they have been told to feel, and never even think about looking for the truth.

Got my Sc about four months ago!

My original thoughts were that a 27 oz 1911 Commander would make a good carry pistol. I was also intrigued by the Scandium alloy frame so I got one for $760.00 which was as good as I could do here in the Portland, Oregon area.

Since that time I have put around 1000 rounds of a variety of ammo through it and have not had one malfunction to date :)

Accuracy has been, for me, excellent. I am not a good shot but I can put five shots into a 3" circle at 25 yards with no problem. At seven yards I can make one ragged hole with the Sc.

It is my EDC pistol and, for that, it is just about perfect. I carry it in a Comp-Tac CTAC Slide which has been just outstanding. :p

Because of its relatively light weight there was some initial concern about recoil. Just not a problem with me or those who have shot it.

I recommend this gun without any reservations what so ever.
