Just picked up my brand new S&W 63-4. It's a beautiful gun, but since recoil will be practically nonexistent (.22lr), I'm looking at getting some fancier grips than the included rubber deal. Anyone have suggestions as to who makes good rosewood (or other red hued wood) grips for it? Also, do all J-frames take the same grips, or does the 63 require special grips? Thanks.

edit; I think I'm looking for cocobolo grips in particular, if that helps.

Altamont

I would second the suggestion above for Altamont rosewood grips. I recently bought some Altamont walnut grips for my model 36, and they look good on the gun.

And a third for the Altamont grips.

I have no picture handy to post, but I got a couple different ones, and they fit fine and look good.

I ordered some wood grips from S&W, perfect fit in a combat grip. Years ago I picked up some S&W wood boot grips I watched a guy trade in and received a terrific deal because I bought them while they were completing the trade. I assume if the previous owner hadn't been there the price would have been greater. By the way those grips are for an old S&W 36 and a 3" model 60. Good luck in whatever you choose -

+1 for Esmeralda;

For Rosewood or Cocobolo, You'll have to keep checking back, she waits till they get low and then puts some more out. The last batch were very nice and I'm actually eyeing one set she has for sale now; I have bought 1911 grips from her before and they're gorgeous.
Cheers, TF

Since like you said, the recoil is non-existent with a Stainless .22LR revolver why not buy a set of Service Grips for it. I like the looks of the old Dymondwood Service Grips on a J frame. S&W has them on their site for only $31.57, see them Here.
